Herb was one of the first birders I met when I arrived in Winnipeg in 1968. He and his friends at the Manitoba Natural History Society (now Nature Manitoba) let me tag along on some of their birding outings, which helped me learn a bit about the geography of Manitoba and about the birds. In later years Herb was always helpful when I wanted to research something at the Manitoba Museum. He and his wife Beverley were always hospitable when we met at their home. Meeting Herb and Bob Nero in the field on a cold winter's day, banding Great Gray Owls, was a very special treat. Although I had lost touch with Herb in recent years, I frequently thought of him with fond memories. My sincerest condolences to Beverley. Wishing you strength. My sincere condolences to Ms. Copland and the family. Herb made significant contributions to Manitoba natural history throughout his life and the Manitoba Museum bird collection benefited immensely from his work. He was always helpful and supportive when I had questions about the collections. I am reminded daily of his contributions to the Museum and ornithology. He has left Manitoba an important legacy. In appreciation and all sympathy, Randy Mooi Curator of Zoology The Manitoba Museum - Posted by: Randall D. Mooi (Friend) on: May 26, 2018
