JOHN RAYMOND WIRTH 1931 - 2018 It is with deep and heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our father, grandfather, uncle and friend, John who passed away peacefully on April 30, 2018 at the age of 86. John was predeceased by his loving wife Mary (nee Orriss), of 52 years, parents, John and Freda Wirth, sister Nancelyn Ross, and brother Douglas Wirth. He leaves to cherish his memory, daughters, Jocelyn (Greg Young), Kathie and Sharon (Barry Adamson), grandchildren, Ryan (Ingrid Baragar), Brandon, Janelle and Brett, brother-in-law Stan Ross, and sister-in-law Gladys Wirth. He will be missed by his nieces and nephews, cousins, numerous colleagues and friends, and companion Vicki Todd. Dad was born in Winnipeg on August 27, 1931. He attended school in St. James and completed grade 11 at Kelvin High School when the family moved to River Heights. He received his CA designation in 1954 and began his CA career working at William M. Hurley & Company. He formed his own company, John R. Wirth & Co., in 1967. In 1968, John joined his father John C. and brother Douglas W. and together they formed Wirth & Wirth Chartered Accountants. John was elected a Fellow of the Chartered Accountants of Manitoba in 1983. Dad retired from public practice as a partner at Ernst and Young in 1991. He was President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Manitoba in 1984 and various committees from 1959 to 1986. He was also a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, serving on the Board of Governors from 1983 to 1985. John also served on the Estate Planning Council of Winnipeg from 1965 to 1992. John was a member of Fort Garry Lodge No. 130, Keystone Lodge No. 188, and Scottish Rite of Free Masonry. He became a member of Khartum Temple A.A.N.O.M.S. in 1965 and was a dedicated member of the Drum and Bugle Corps. He served as their Treasurer in 1980 and President in 1983. John also served as the Treasurer for the Midwest Shrine Committee in 1979 and 1991. He was acting Treasurer for the Shrine Temple in 2003 and was elected as Treasurer from 2004 to 2005. Dad and his parents spent many summers at Lac Lu, Ontario prior to purchasing the family cottage in 1949. In 1957, Dad introduced our mother to "lake life" at LacLu, and the bond with the lake was further strengthened. Upon retirement, Mom and Dad enjoyed many summers together with their canine companion "Shanda" by their side. Nothing meant more to Dad than to continue making memories at LacLu with his daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren. In keeping with Dad's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Khartum Temple Drum and Bugle Corps. Our family would like to thank the many healthcare professionals who cared for Dad over the last two years, especially the dedicated staff at Tuxedo Villa for their compassion and caring ways. As well, a heartfelt thank you is extended to Dr. Badesha and his medical team at Grace Hospital. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations may be made to the Diabetes Foundation of Manitoba, 401-1 Wesley Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4C6, CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0E9 or Khartum Shriners Burn Unit, 1155 Wilkes Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3P 1B9, or a charity of choice.
