Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBENSON ZWARYCH June 7, 1955 - May 22, 2018 With the deepest sorrow the family announces the sudden passing of Benson in his home in Winnipeg. Benson was predeceased by his father, Stanley in June of 1999, his mother Shirley in February of 2014, and his niece Sinead in June 2012. Benson is survived by his daughter Charity, granddaughters, Ciera, Shiloh, Lila and Brielle; his brothers, Brian (Jo-Ann), Ken and Chris; sisters, Brenda (Bill) and Pat (Stu); nieces, Wendy (Vince) Zinkowski and Jaclyn (Nick) Copeland; nephews, Michael, Robbie (Jenelle) Hryshchuk, Devin Lee, Steven (Abby) and Jonathan Zwarych; great-nieces and nephews, Zachary and Savannah Zinkowski, Brooke and Brynne Lee and Hayden McDonald. His special friends, John Derkson, Fred Butcher, Tiffany Bibeau; his extended family and friends, Lenny Nault, Ashlee Rafuse, Gary Lee, and all the very special people from Starbucks coffee on Academy - staff and patrons, these people made his long days more enjoyable and encouraged his love to read. Ben was born in Teulon, Manitoba and resided on the family property which was a farm at the time. Ben would conduct the milking of the cows, feeding of the calves, pigs and horses, and cleaning barns before and after school. He could cut a cord of wood with an old bucksaw in no time! Summer time was spending time in the fields making hay. After graduation Ben worked with a local carpenter Pete Goeke and worked on the Teulon Collegiate addition and renovation in the mid 1970s. When that job was completed he located to Winnipeg for work purposes. He purchased his home in 1981 and it was in this home that he passed. His first job in Winnipeg was at Manitoba Bridge where he worked in the foundry. Upon this business closing he began his long career at Ancast Industries (also foundry work) where he was employed till his health took a turn and he had to leave a job and friends that he missed dearly. Ben served as secretary / treasurer for many years on the Union Board at work. He had a love for numbers and was very good with keeping detailed records and completing his own income tax for years. Against all odds, Ben survived a house fire in 1987. This fire left him with lasting scars both inside and outside. He suffered both emotionally and physically as well, this was the start of his health issues. Ben did return to work at Ancast Industries even though doctors didn't think he would handle the job, but he was determined and so strong that he was able to do his job till his health declined in 2010. Ben lived a simple, quiet life in his early health forced retirement years. Ben enjoyed his daily visits to his mom while she was in the home in Winnipeg and they would play cards and enjoy each other's company. Ben really missed Mom after she passed as she was his best friend. He also enjoyed special family dinners and his love for food never left him! He was so appreciative of the company he did receive and phone calls and of course Facebook. He loved to socialize and to see life through other people's experiences. The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses that have helped Ben through his health battles. To the paramedics/firemen and to the Constables that helped on Tuesday, your kindness and understanding will never be forgotten. Thank you to John Derksen for being so helpful to Ben over the years; you were a great friend. Thank you to Tiffany for her support and help. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Teulon. We will miss you Benson, wishing you peace and easy breathing MacKenzie Funeral Home Teulon 204-467-2525 info@mackenziefh.com

I’ve been serving Ben at his local Starbucks on Academy Road for at least 3 years. He was an every day regular who liked to enjoy a tall Pike in the armchair with his book. Always a new book, he read them so fast! Not long after he started frequenting the shop we found a common author we liked and soon after started exchanging books! We were all deeply saddened at Starbucks to learn about his passing! He made real friendships with other regulars who would sit with him and visit. All week we’ve been sharing the sad news. He really was a part of our little store! Apparently his voice mail message was he’s not home, he’s at Starbucks. Our thoughts go out to his family during this difficult time. He will be missed. - Posted by: Naomi Swan-Lake (Friend) on: May 26, 2018
