RICHARD EVERETT BAVERSTOCK December 15, 1965 - May 24, 2018 Tragically, the music stopped for Rick on Thursday, May 24, 2018, at the age of 52 years. Left to mourn Rick's passing, are his children, Nate and Macy, and their mother Krista. Also left to mourn are his brother Bob (Vicki); sister Terry Bachman (Ken); as well as four nephews, two nieces and his special friend Janice. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert George and Eileen Alice (nee Butler) Baverstock. On December 15, 1965, Rick was born in Beausejour, MB. At a young age, he showed an interest in Rock music; so much so that he began playing music and being a D.J. on our home C.B. Radio. This prompted a few "visits" from the Department of Communications. Rick decided to pursue his career "legally" and took his training in Thunder Bay, ON. He worked there under his lifelong D.J. name of Rick Everett (The Doctor of Rock), then moved on to several stations including Moose Jaw, SK, Brandon, MB, Victoria, BC and Winnipeg (92 CITI FM) (KICK FM) and (94.3 FM). Later Rick became senior producer and music director at NCI FM and now Country FM. He won awards for his outstanding work. Rick has made many friends throughout his career. He was a great father, friend and party animal. The family would like to thank Janice Bisko for caring for Rick and helping him to cope through difficult times. We need more Janices in the world. We would also like to thank Matt Di Ubaldo for going above and beyond, as a friend to Rick. A celebration of Rick's life is taking place at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at the Roblin Centre, Red River Community College, 160 Princess Street. A reception to follow upstairs at the King's Head Pub. There will be an open mike portion for anyone wishing to share a story. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Wojcik's Funeral Chapels & Crematoriums, 1020 Main Street, Winnipeg, 204.586.8668 www.wojciksfuneralchapel.com We love and miss you, Rick. Rock On!

Condolences & Memories (12 entries)

  • In very many ways I owe my career to Rick. My first week at RRC in 2007, I approached him because I so badly wanted to have my own indie music show on KICK FM. He showed me the ropes and then let me loose on the Winnipeg airwaves. His guidance, advice and encouragement were key in developing my passion for radio and the craft I continue to hone to this day. The time we shared in his office at RRC is truly a treasure. Thank you for all the laughs, music recommendations, and kindness you showed me, Rick. I thought about you today when I saw you guest starring in my first year CreCom music video, and I’ll never forget you. - Posted by: Gaetan Harris (Friend/mentee) on: May 21, 2019

  • I was shocked and saddened to hear of Rick's passing. I became friends with Rick when he was on The Q in Victoria, BC. I loved his sense of humour and he and I shared a love of Loony Tunes and Seinfeld. My condolences go out to Macy and Nate, the rest of his family and many friends and colleagues. Heaven is a funnier place now! - Posted by: Terry Niles (Friend) on: Aug 11, 2018

  • Want to send my condolences to Rick's family and all those who were close to him. I was shocked to hear of his passing as our friendship goes WAY back to as early when we were 5 years old! I remember many good times with Richard back in our school days starting in elementary school in Beausejour. His nickname was "Beaver" all through that time! We were born one day apart in December of 1965. Rick was on December 15, I was on December 14. If I recall correctly Rick's mother and my mother even shared a room in the BJ hospital at that time! I shared many more good moments with Rick after high school in Thunder Bay, then in Winnipeg and then when we were both living in Victoria, BC in the 1990s too. Our lives drifted apart after that, but still very sad to hear you are gone my old buddy. You will be missed. Hope you are resting in peace. - Posted by: Bob Hastman (Friend from earliest school days) on: Jun 14, 2018

  • I went to school with Richard in the late 70's and 80's at Edward Schreyer School in Beausejour, MB. I remember many lunch hours well-spent in Mr. Hattie's lab or Mr. Luy's room with the gang - where we discussed making comedy tapes, music sessions, or the topic of the day, with lots of mocking and wit. He was the master of a thousand voices, encyclopedia of musicology, and a good all around guy. Rest in Peace, Richard. • Thank you for always making us laugh. I will cherish your humour. - Posted by: Sandra Allison (Friend) on: May 31, 2018

  • My heart goes out to Rick’s family. There’s so many memories of Rick and myself. I was fortunate to meet Rick when he worked for the Q. I was a bartender around the block and the gang from the Q were some of my best customers, unknown to me that Rick and I would become close friends. So so, many memories. • Rick was more than a radio personality that I listened to on The Q! in Victoria, Rick was and remained a real good and close friend. Whether it was his afternoon radio show with Kirk Mason, Retro-A-Gogo or his Sunday night blues show Red Hot & Blue, his on-air delivery was as good as it gets. He loved The Q! His return to Winnipeg to establish the radio program at Red River Community College and KICK-FM were shining achievements of pride. It was with deep loss that I learned last week of his passing. His personality was genuine, caring and decorated with ever-present humor. He had a love for the blues and soul, RCA promotionals, old-time radio archives, unique record labels, 78 and 45 RPM records and Memphis' SUN Records. He was a music archaeologist that loved to uncover and discover little-known, lost or forgotten gems. For him, they were no less a marvel than the treasures of an Egyptian tomb and they led him to research the history of the artist and recordings, then proudly share his discoveries with enthusiasm. His wit and comedic delivery matched the calibre of any favorite Seinfeld moment, and he was a true fan of the David Letterman Late Night show. He was a dedicated and loving father to his two kids and supported many colleagues and friends wherever his career path traveled. It seemed that the life of everyone who met or knew Rick became more enriched. I will laugh less without him. - Posted by: DAVID WITZER (close friend) on: May 30, 2018

  • My deepest condolences over this untimely loss. Rick ran 92.9 Kick FM when I was a frenzied Communications student at Red River College. His door was always open, and believe me I couldn't be more grateful for that! I'd pop in and we'd share a laugh and shoot the breeze about music. He'd let me borrow new releases and encouraged me to do voice-work. Those pop-in visits kept me sane some days, when the craziness of school got too hectic. Rick, may you rest in peace and may those whom you left behind find a way to cope with this tragedy. My prayers go out to everyone grieving at this time. - Posted by: Bree Marks (Fan) on: May 29, 2018

  • Thank you, Rick, for not only enhancing my career, but much more importantly - my life. Praying for you and your family. - Posted by: Doug (Friend/colleague) on: May 28, 2018

  • When I was first hired at the radio station where Rick and I worked, I was a complete green rookie with no on air experience, just a weird sense of humour and ability to do character voices. Rick took me under his wing. He trained me, taught me the basics of radio but also showed me how to tap into my weird humour to create a radio show I was proud of. A new style of radio that had never been done before. He was always in my corner, whether it was radio or my band WHY. Rick was always supportive. He got us radio airplay on other stations around the country by sending our singles to radio programmers he knew or had worked with and told them to check us out. He also played our songs on KICK FM when he running that station and we had some #1 songs on the countdown. Rick recorded a hour long radio special with interviews with us about our 2007 album. He invited me to host the morning show for a week when I was out of work. He was always kind and supportive but also a professional. Rick helped me knowing I had no way to repay him. His voice as an announcer and voice over artist was the best I'd ever heard. His humour was so spot on. He and I would riff off each other all the time. I will miss that the most. If it weren't for Rick I would not have had any radio career. My heart is broken and the world is a little colder without him in it. I miss Rick terribly. I am the praying kind so I am praying and believing for peace to surround his family and his children. - Posted by: Brian Cook (friend) on: May 28, 2018

  • I am gutted to hear the news. Richard and I worked together in Thunder Bay in the 80's. I went to visit him Victoria in the 90's and through Facebook and email we stayed in touch. I always received a humorous birthday greeting on my day. I was in Winnipeg this week and I thought about reaching out to him but noticed he deleted his FB account in March. I can't imagine what goes on inside to think that this was the better choice. Hugs to the family and the kids. I looked up to him as a radio personality and cherished the friendship we had. • I remember first hearing Rick on-air at 92 CITI FM introducing "Welcome To The Jungle" as I was driving home for Thanksgiving Weekend. Little did I know that we would be Co-Alumni of the same Broadcasting Program, then colleagues and fast friends. I credit him for giving me my first nickname in Radio. Quick witted, laid back and never a bad word to say about anyone is how I will remember Rick. I already miss him dearly. God Speed. - Posted by: Mark Joss (Colleague and Friend) on: May 26, 2018
