BRETT CHRISTOPHER MCGURK 1977 - 2018 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Brett Christopher McGurk on Sunday, May 20, 2018 in the Rural Municipality of Lac Du Bonnet, Manitoba, at the age of 40. He was predeceased by his father, Brian McGurk; grandparents, George and Elsie McGurk, Walter and Kay Sych, and cousin, Brandon Sych. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved mother, Marilyn, brother, Shane from Calgary, his nephew, Harrison, his niece, Cailin; uncles and aunts, Edward and Linda Sych, Brian and Caren Sych, Terry and Jean McGurk, and many cousins, friends and colleagues. Brett was born on December 21, 1977 in Winnipeg, Manitoba where he resided and pursued his professional career. In his younger years, Brett was active in sport, particularly hockey and baseball. He had a fond love of music and played in several bands as a lead guitarist. He attended the University of Winnipeg having attained a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2000. Thereafter, he obtained a Masters Degree from the University of Manitoba in Natural Resources Management, which he obtained in 2003. Following his post-secondary studies, he entered the workforce in environmental consulting with Intergroup Consultants Ltd. (2003 to 2010) and thereafter commenced his career at Manitoba Hydro as an Environmental Specialist working in the Licensing, Environmental and Transmission Planning and Design Division. Brett was particularly fond of his co-workers and expressed a genuine respect and admiration for their efforts and commitment, which he shared passionately. Brett exhibited a kindness and understanding that touched so many people both personally and professionally. This was even more pronounced with his devotion to his family. At all times, Brett was a supportive and loving son and brother who would offer support, assistance and guidance where needed and would never falter in his willingness to help. Brett's passion for the environment was unparalleled and began at an early age when he was introduced to cabin life by his immediate and extended family. His love of the lake, fishing and golfing was his true passion. He enjoyed every notion of cottage lifestyle and spent most of his free time at the cabin. Although he left us abruptly and prematurely, Brett has forever left an imprint on the hearts and memories of family, friends and colleagues. His kindness, compassion, sense of humour, dedication and devotion will forever be missed but never forgotten. To have, to hold and then to part, Is the greatest sorrow of our hearts. "Eternal rest grant unto him O'Lord, and let the perpetual light shine upon him". In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Brett's memory to a charitable organization of your choice. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolences at www.glenedenmemorial.ca Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery 204-338-7111

  • I’ll miss his sense of humour and his unique style . There was never a day you didn’t see Brett dressed in a suit with a bright tie on. He always stood out and always looked professional. His sense of humour was like no other , always making you smile with his off the cuff remarks and comments , he didn’t have much of a filter ... but that’s what I loved about him. He had a carefree attitude and was ready to take on the world . I’m sorry that he is not with us anymore and I want to send my condolences to his family . Rest In Peace Wingman !
