Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERTHA IRMA LENGYEL (VERHAEGHE) 1946 - 2018 Bertha Lengyel, 71, of Winnipeg, passed away May 25, 2018, as a result of a long battle with leukemia. Her family were by her side when she slipped away. She was born to Maria and Arthur Verhaeghe, of St. Boniface, Manitoba, in 1946. Preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Maria Verhaeghe, and her brother Leo. Bertha is survived by her husband, Klaas; and her six children, Janey (Shawn), Gordon (Annie), Scott (Erin), Lee (Shelley), Mark (Laurel) and Hank. As well as her 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Bertha also leaves behind her siblings, George, Yvonne, Ralph and her sister-in-law Donna. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed camping and spending time with her family. Bertha's first love was bulldogs, which she spent many years training and presenting in shows. Her precious prize winners were Lady and Patches. Bertha was a very caring and giving mother, always putting others before herself. Her family was cherished deeply. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, with reception and burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to Manitoba Special Olympics. I knew Auntie Bertha for a long time. She was there when I was a little baby. Was the greatest Auntie ever. She always spoiled all of us kids with Christmas gifts, birthday gifts, anything that she could. I will always miss her.
