DOROTHY WHEELER February 29, 1928 - May 25, 2018 Surrounded by family on Friday May 25, 2018, Dorothy (Dot) passed away peacefully at Riverview Health Care Centre. Dorothy leaves to mourn her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Will (Judy), Jason, Tenille (Enzo), Brock; Raymond (Sheila), Shaun (Jillian), Astrid, Reverie; Leonard (Jeannette), Lyle (Courtney), Jared (Christine), Alison, Thompson, Edylen, Christopher (Marie), Jericho; Pat (Norman), Kelly (John), Nina, Jennifer (Ian), Dylan, Liam; David (Sandra), Robyn, Michelle (Harrison), Nicole (Chris), Cameron; Brian (Barbara), Jeffrey (Hannah), Dana (Jason), Laura (Chase), and family friend Andrew Murphy. Dorothy, professional bingo player, avid old classic movie watcher, faithful fan of Robert B. Parker (mystery detective author), dance partner, proud doting mother, loving grandmother and great-grandmother, she loved to spend her time sharing stories of her childhood memories of Ireland. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, her Irish heritage was something she was proud of her entire life. Dorothy took pride in having a clean home and impeccable attire. Her hair was always done and she was always dressed in the finest fashions. Every Tuesday was shopping day at Walmart with Raymond and Wednesday was 'return day', the day she returned most of what she had purchased the day before. Len (Sonny), her husband, was the love of Mom's life and she was anxious to join him in the next life. She derived her happiness by spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had the biggest heart, so much so that she thought it a good idea to share her hearing aids with her friend Ollie, as she no longer needed them. As sweet as mom could be, if you crossed her, you faced the wrath of her licking stick or in the least her 'waving little finger' putting you back in your place. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 16 at 2:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. The family would like to thank the staff at Riverview Health Care Centre 4W wing and C2 wing for their care and compassion for Mom. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to C2 wing at Riverview Health Care Centre or to a charity of your choice. Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Dear Ray & Sheila and family, Please accept our most sincere condolences on the passing of your wonderful mother. Although we never met her the tribute above speaks volumes of what a lovely and caring woman she was. We know she is missed and wish you peace and comfort in the knowledge that you will see each other again. - Posted by: MONIQUE & Reg Graboski (Friend of Ray and Sheila) on: Jun 17, 2018

  • We always admired Aunty Dorothy’s strong character and appreciated her loving advice. Our fondest memory is when our boys were younger and she shared her journey to Canada with them, over a cup of tea in our kitchen. She had their complete attention. It was so sweet that she took the time to visit with them but that was Aunty Dorothy! Any event she attended was always described as “Lovely”. She will always hold a special spot in our hearts and will never be forgotten. Our love goes out to her family. Love to all Chuck Sheila and family - Posted by: Chuck and Sheila Wheeler (Nephew and niece in law ) on: Jun 13, 2018

  • What a sad day it was for me when I heard about my Auntie D's passing and although time and distance got in the way sometimes, our phone calls kept the closeness! We had many words to say through the wires, and with today's wonderful technology it seemed as if she was just around the corner, many days I wished it were so. Many times auntie D wanted to be home in old Ireland, and I tried my best to keep her updated with all the news of home, including the loss of her kin. She was interested in her nephews' and nieces' life stories and so it is today we send loving thoughts to our cousins as they mourn their mum. I will forever miss our comfort calls, but peace is hers now and memories are mine. The last leaf of that generation to fall off the Family Tree, but the Branch still remains, and we will meet again xxx Love always, Christine (her niece at home in Heenan land, Ireland) - Posted by: Christine Hiller (Niece) on: Jun 13, 2018

  • Our condolences to everyone from Devon, England. We met Dorothy at Chris and Marie's wedding, immaculately dressed and a beaming smile. Reading the list of family members, it seems she was a force to be reckoned with, people like her are a rarity and I'm sure the pain in her passing will be replaced with all the happy memories of her. Love and God bless, Janice and Dave xxx - Posted by: Janice and Dave Goodney (Parents of Marie (Christopher) Wheeler.) on: Jun 10, 2018
