THE REV. CHARLES F. M. WALTON August 16, 1937 - May 27, 2018 On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, surrounded by love, Charles Walton journeyed from this life to the next. Charles was a consummate Winnipegger and cottage owner. He worked for the provincial government as an auditor among other duties and was President of his MGEA local. While in his 40s he answered God's call and was ordained as an Anglican deacon in January 1982 and as a priest in January 1985. His specialty became interim ministry and he served in many parishes in the Diocese of Rupertsland. He had a special ability to discern gifts of those surrounding him. In his later years, he did occasional Sunday services, his favourite place being his summer parish of St. George's Wakefield. He and his first wife Helen did a lot of travelling in their retirement, which he loved. He often spoke of the many places and people he met along the way. He was a skilled raconteur and loved a good conversation. His greatest enjoyment was at the cottage in Ponemah and being surrounded by family and friends. Charles' essence stayed intact when his health challenged him in recent years. He fought hard against his dementia and enjoyed good conversation and laughing with friends to his last days. He will be truly missed by his wife Katharine Langille; children, Matthew (Jocelyne), William (Gwen), Mirela (Treva) and Daniel Aitken; his grandchildren, Delonna, Allan, Willow and Jonah; sister Elizabeth Stevenson, mother-in-law Dale Langille, and sons, Carl and Paul and their families. He will also be missed by cousins and many friends. He was predeceased by his first wife, Helen, in 1998. Thank you to staff of Charleswood Care Centre for their care and compassion these last months, particularly Berta and Tracy, as well as the Palliative Care Team for their involvement. Thanks also to the Rev. Jamie Howison and The Rev. Rod Sprange for their ministrations on Sunday. Funeral service will be Friday, June 1 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John's Cathedral, 135 Anderson Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations in memoriam may be made to St. George's Wakefield Anglican Church, Box 219, Clandeboye, MB R0C 0P0 or a charity of your choice. Rest well. We love you. I cherish our precious time that we shared. Your my best friend but most of all my father. I love you with all my heart. You showed me a hole new world of travel and new food with lots of adventures . Going to the lake is my safe place because you were there. Our conversations and your teachings I’ll hold on forever, your wisdom and the words you spoke. You believe in me and brought out the best in me . Your my one and only Charles as I was your only daughter. Together we become one. Everything I do, from public speaking on mental health illness to raising awareness on dementia. • I was welcomed into the Walton family in 1993 and Helen and Charles made sure that I felt so much love. In 1996 when we welcomed Charles and Helen’s first granddaughter, Haley into the world, there was much celebration. The following year Hannah, another healthy and beautiful granddaughter, joined the Walton clan. Both Helen and Charles were thrilled with the fact that now they had four wonderful grandchildren, two boys Andrew and Christopher and two girls. They were the pride and joy of their grandparents. Sadly the following the year we lost Helen. We travelled as a family with Helen and Charles to Florida, Hawaii and Phoenix. So many fond memories. - Posted by: Laura walton (Daughter in law) on: Jun 07, 2018

  • Charles and Katharine attended St Chad's Anglican Church while I was Priest there, and they were strong supporters of mine. My sincere condolences to the entire family- One of the Greats has gone Home!-Rev. Gordon Shields, Maple Ridge, B.C. - Posted by: Rev. Gordon Shields (Friend) on: Jun 03, 2018

  • I first knew Charles when I was a teen at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church. Our congregation shared the building with St. Bede's Anglican Church, and there were joint ministries, including our youth group. Charles wasn't yet ordained then, but he reached out to each of us youth and made us feel known and valued as people growing in Christ. When I joined St. Benedict's Table years later I reconnected with Charles and enjoyed his acquaintance with his wife, Katharine. He remained a man full of love and interest in others around him. I offer my sincere condolences to Katharine and their children. - Posted by: Rhonda Roman (Friend) on: Jun 02, 2018

  • Charles was my cousin and in my younger years, our families spent much time together. I have many happy memories with Charles, Helen, Carl, and Paul, as well as with our cousins, Elizabeth and Bill and their family. Charles was a fascinating story teller and a wonderful conversationalist. My thoughts are with Katharine and her family and Elizabeth, at this difficult time. - Posted by: Jan Watters (Cousin) on: Jun 02, 2018

  • So sorry that we cannot be with you on this challenging day. Our thoughts and prayers are there and we will get together once we get back. We did not get to know Charles well but knew him to be a caring, compassionate man who always seemed to have a twinkle in his eye. He was engaging with a keen sense of humour. Blessings on you and all your families. Gilbert and Adeline - Posted by: Gilbert and Adeline Berg (Friends) on: Jun 01, 2018

  • My Deepest condolences goes to Charles Family. I was lucky enough to know Charles when he would come and purchase furniture and appliances for his cottage. Each year on his way to the cottage he would make sure he would drop in and say hello. He was such an amazing man and had a heart of gold. He will be missed. - Posted by: Wanda Yanosik (Friend) on: Jun 01, 2018

  • I'm sorry I only knew Charles in later years, but I wish Katharine, Daniel, Mirela and the rest of his family my sincerest condolences. I know he will be greatly missed and we will miss him at Church for his kindness and warmth. - Posted by: Kari Hagness (acquaintence) on: May 30, 2018

  • Charles was a large part of my childhood. My sisters and I often spent many happy times at Charles's and Helen's home playing with our cousins. Since our own father died when we were young, Charles was at times a loving father figure to my sisters and I. He always had wise counsel and was a great support for my mother after our father passed away. Sending love and caring thoughts to the entire Walton family. - Posted by: Aynsley Anderson Sosinski (Cousin) on: May 30, 2018
