NORMA KATHLEEN (WAKEHAM) LAWS Norma peacefully passed away on Monday, May 28, 2018 at West Park Manor. We rejoice that she went to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Predeceased by her parents, Tom and Tina Bednas, her husbands, Jack Wakeham (1973) and Harry Laws (2007), siblings, Tom and Bill, and great-grandson Jaxton. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jack (Alice) and Gary (Janice). Fondly remembered by her eight grandchildren, Jonathon, Cole, Junita (Terrence), Chase (Tara), Taylor (Adam), Alyson (Ryan), Kristen (Ben), Brett (Kristen) and her 15 great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Katherine (Elliot) and Gary, step-grandchildren, Kristy (Glen), Brendan, Jordan, Brady and Shianna, and one step-great-grandchild. Norma was born in Winnipegosis on December 23, 1926 the second of six children and was raised in Fork River. Norma will be remembered for her love of gardening, the outdoors, animals, sewing and crafts, cooking and baking, reading, fashion, sports and music. But her love of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren surpassed all these. She so enjoyed receiving and looking at pictures of all of them. Loving, generous, self-sacrificing, compassionate and a beautiful smile, she touched everyone she encountered with her caring heart. In 2008 Norma moved to The Westhaven and enjoyed almost nine and a half years there. In October 2017 she chose to move to West Park Manor in Charleswood. Family would like to extend great gratitude to the staff of Westhaven and West Park Manor for embracing Norma and providing her with a wonderful quality of life. To the staff of Health Sciences Centre, 7th floor, who tenderly cared for Norma from May 19 to May 24 we appreciate your dedicated care. Marianne and Gerri, Norma's special companions, in your love and devotion for her you always went the extra mile. The family can't thank you enough. A celebration of Norma's life will be held Friday, June 1 at Grant Memorial Church, 877 Wilkes Ave. at 12:15 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to West Park Manor building fund or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • It was with much sadness that I learned of my Aunt Norma's death. I have many fond memories of her from various family summer visits over the years. She was always getting a meal and related social activities organized, buzzing around to arrange everyone and everything just so for best effect and fun. She loved antiques, especially her china collection and her tea cart, which she always had set up with changing displays. Over the years, Aunt Norma made sure that we females looked our best, flexing her training as a hairdresser and making use of an in-home salon to do so; that was one more perk of visiting her. She made sure that her sons (Jack and Garry) would touch base with us some time during our visits. They always were doing other things (being older than me) but didn't mind giving up some time to greet family (including my parents). Aunt Norma always had a soft spot for children and animals; I especially remember one visit to her which included a quiet (don't disturb them) visit to the chinchillas that she was raising at the time. I'll always miss her enthusiasm and her talents but I'm glad that I got to know her and them over the years, - Posted by: Marianne Bednas Bruce (niece) on: Feb 11, 2022
