MARY ELIZABETH (BETTY) WILSON It is with profound sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Betty (nee Baddon) on Friday, May 25, 2018 at River Park Gardens in St. Vital. A loving wife, mother, nana, sister and aunt, Mom is now reunited with Gil, her loving husband of 66 years, who predeceased her in 2010. Mom will be sadly missed by her daughter Wendy Riel (Allan), sons, Doug (Donna) and David (Wanda), grandsons, Robert (LeeAnn), Kevin (Marci), Bryan (deceased), Michael J., Matthew (Puja), Michael D. (Jenn) and Alex (Kaily), great-grandchildren, Courtney, Cameron, Joshua, Thomas and Aria, and brother Roland (Valerie). Born on June 13, 1924 in Winnipeg and raised in St. Vital, Mom was predeceased by her father George Ralph Baddon and her mother Annabelle. Attending Glenwood and later, Norberry High School, Mom loved and excelled at aquatics as a teen spending many hours as a lifeguard at the old St. Vital Swimming Club. Following her service with the WRENs in the Second World War, Mom turned her attention to raising her young family and became actively involved with Glenwood Community Club, its Ladies Auxiliary and the Girl Guides. Along with Dad, she spent countless hours volunteering with the many activities that the "Club" provided for the neighbourhood kids. With her children all in school, Mom went to work at the St. Vital School Division where she spent 20 plus years as the secretary to the principal in various schools including Varennes, Norberry, St. George, George McDowell and St. Amant. Mom would often say the best part of her job was the wonderful staff and students she worked with. Family was paramount to Mom and her favourite times were spent with Dad, her children and grandchildren. The family summer vacations in Kenora and the many winter holidays spent in Hawaii were amongst her most memorable. The family would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the wonderful staff at both the Riverside Lions Manor and subsequently, River Park Gardens, for the care, respect and dignity with which they treated Mom during the years she resided at each of these wonderful care facilities. Words cannot express what that meant to us. Respecting her wishes that there be no formal service, Mom will be laid to rest in St.Vital Cemetery beside Dad. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Alzheimer Society or a charity of your choice. Mom, we love you, we will miss you and we will always remember your favourite advice: "You've got to take the bitter with the better."
