DIANNE SALLANS (nee HORNE) After a short but spirited battle Dianne surrendered to cancer peacefully, surrounded by her 'girls' and on her terms. Di grew up in the Riverview area and attended Churchill High School. Her careers changed over time but her ability to make lasting friendships did not. Her interests were varied; she rarely missed a weekly bingo game, loved live theatre and enjoyed crosswords, jigsaw puzzles and reading. She never hesitated to help a friend in need and was a volunteer for numerous organizations, freely giving her time to usher for MTC (40 plus years!), the JT Music Parents Association, LWF, MS Society, Victoria Beach Community Centre and Sturgeon Creek United Church. Dianne was always actively involved in her girls' activities. Dianne coordinated fundraising and chaperoned band and water polo trips across Canada and to Europe, highlighted by the "chaperones only" Europe trip with good friends made on the previous adventures. Everyone knows Dianne was a skilled baker and 40 years of special days have been celebrated with her beautiful wedding cakes, birthday cakes, fancy sandwiches and dainties. Gramma Di loved to spend time with her only grandson, Cohen, doing puzzles, taking him to Costco for a hot dog and letting him teach her which remote turns on the TV. While she loved working at Arjo-North and Sunwest Screen Graphics, retirement allowed her the freedom for long stays at her favourite place, Victoria Beach, surrounded by her Victoria Beach family. In recent years Dianne also reconnected with a group of high school friends, the Churchill Alums, and they met annually to reminisce, laugh and catch up. In the off-season Di joined the chiming group at Sturgeon Creek United Church. The Chimers and performing at Spring Ring were bright spots for Dianne during the last months of her life. Dianne is remembered by her daughters, Cindy and Shauna (Doug), grandson Cohen, sister Corinne (Jack), brother Jamie (Sharon), cousin Carolynne (Ken), nephews, Jason (André), Todd (Peggy), Ian and Ryan (Julia), and great-nephews and nieces, Connor, Anna, Aidan, Danielle, Logan, Callum, Liam and Eli. Di will also be remembered by the family she chose - Cathy, Bob, Arlene, Larry, Shirley, David, Ken, Arla, Janet and Mike. Thank you for the decades of love and friendship you shared with Mom. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. The family would like to thank the staff at the Grace Hospital ER, Dr. Bowman, Dr. Friesen and the nurses of 3 South for your compassion and care in the last weeks of Mom's life. A special thanks to her neighbours Jan, Mike and Phyllis; Mom truly appreciated your friendship and your help during her illness. Cindy and Shauna: So very sorry to hear about your Mom. She was a great social convenor, a great travel companion, and a great and thoughtful friend. She would leave us a sleeve of cream cheese and cherry sandwiches in our mailbox for a treat. I would occasionally get one depending who got to the mailbox first. Memories of her always bring a smile. She will be missed. Bonnie Thomson - Posted by: Bonnie Thomson (Friend) on: Jun 07, 2018

Dianne was our "go to" caterer for all of our piano recitals. Her sandwiches, dainties and cakes were wonderful. We lived in the same neighbourhood and met on many occasions at John Taylor Collegiate where her daughters and ours attended school and shared the same passion for music. She had a welcoming smile matched by her humility and pleasant personality. We feel blessed to have known this charismatic and caring lady. Our condolences to Cindy and Shauna and the rest of the family. Thank you for sharing her with the Crestview Community. - Posted by: Charles Paragg (Friend) on: Jun 06, 2018
