JOSEPH (JOSEF) PETER JARIGEN Joseph passed away peacefully and with dignity on June 1, 2018 at St. Boniface Hospital. He is now free of the ongoing physical pain he courageously endured for many years of his life. Joseph was born in Russia on February 24, 1942. Displaced because of the Second World War, Joseph and his mother were liberated from a camp in Germany and eventually emigrated to Belgium. He arrived in Winnipeg at the tender age of twelve years old. Though he was proud of the three languages he already spoke, Joseph worked hard to master the English language right away as a new Canadian. He held various jobs as a young man until he found his calling as a hair stylist at the age of twenty-two. During his career, he competed at numerous hair shows across Canada and won many awards including the Lifetime Crystal Award and other Awards of Excellence. Joseph opened his first salon, Venus Coiffures, on Sherbrook Street and later his salon, Hair Creations, on Tache Avenue where he enjoyed serving clients from all walks of life including many notables in Winnipeg. During the latter part of his career Joseph was on the Master Judges Panel of Canada, Social Director and Vice President for MHA as well as appointed by the Government of Manitoba to the Board of Examiners. He was also on the Provincial Trade Advisory Committee. Joseph was a man who was well respected and larger than life. He was charismatic with an infectious laugh, a wry sense of humour and he always had a smile on his face to match his positive attitude. He held strong family values, was loyal, kind and was a man of integrity to all who knew him well. Joseph will be lovingly greeted by his three children, Lisa, David and Ryan as well as his mother Maria, his father Peter, and his mother-in-law Eva. Left to cherish his memory is his loving and devoted wife Linda, his son Jayson (Denise), son-in-law Peter, granddaughter Melissa (Dan) and great-granddaughter Dahlia. He will be deeply missed by his beloved sister Regina (Frank) as well as brothers-in-law, Mel (Sheila) and Bob. He was also adored and will be lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews, Peter (Flo), Christopher, James, Britney, Stephen, Ashley and Matthew (Marlee). Also left to cherish his memory with love is his very good friend Robert (Toni), daughter Andrea and goddaughter Kaitlin. Joseph considered them all his extended family. Also survived by daughter Cindy Lou (Ron). We would like to thank Dr. Kevin Coates (Family Doctor) and Dr. Christie Sathianathan (Nephrologist Renal Health Clinic) for their exemplary care over many years. In addition, we'd like to thank the wonderful staff at St. Boniface Hospital including the full Dialysis team of doctors, nurses, health care aides and volunteers as well the caring nursing staff of ward 6A South. The funeral service will be held Friday, June 8, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Thomson "In The Park," 1291 McGillivray Blvd. with Fr. Sam Argenziano celebrant. A private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, should family or friends desire, a donation may be made to a charity of your choice.
