DONALD ROY MCCASKILL With his family by his side, the family of Donald Roy McCaskill announces his passing after a brief illness at Concordia Hospital. Dad leaves us to join his daughter Lori. Donald is loving remembered by his wife of 62 years, Jane, son Gary, daughter-in-law Sherry, and one and only granddaughter Taylor Dawn. He was predeceased by daughter Lori, father Neil, mother Vivian, brother Ken, sister Marion and infant brother Ian. Donald resided in North Kildonan for over 50 years. He had an expansive career with the City of Winnipeg for 35 years as a police officer. He was a Grey Owl Golf Committee member and honorary member. The number one passion in Donald's life was always his family, putting them far above all else. He and his wife Jane were constant companions always doing everything together. Donald was a perfect husband and role model for his kids and granddaughter, and he never missed a sporting event in which they played. He coached and volunteered his time with many endeavors. Jane was the love of his life for 65 years, until 17 years ago when his only grandchild Taylor was born. The two had an amazing and special bond the instant she was born. Taylor was an absolute star in his eyes and brought incredible joy and happiness to him in his last years. Donald never missed a hockey practice or game until recently when Parkinson's disease made it tough for him to attend. Don was an extremely kind, honest, patient and honourable man, always seeing good in people no matter what background they came from. He was very generous and giving to many charities over the years. A Service of Remembrance for Donald will be held at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Highway on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Donald's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or Parkinson Canada. I had the great privilege of knowing the McCaskill family as I babysat Lori and Gary for many years. It saddens me to hear of Don's passing and I send my condolences to Jane and Gary and family. He was a gentle and caring soul and I wish the family peace throughout this difficult time. May the memories that you treasure see you through this sad time. - Posted by: Charlene Hubatka (nee Wirth) (friend) on: Jun 25, 2018

I am so sad to hear of the passing of Mr. McCaskill. As a friend of his daughter, Lori, I spent countless hours at the McCaskill home with their family. Mr. McCaskill was always such a kind and gentle man, and I have so many fond memories of spending time with the McCaskill family. One memory in particular stands out: When vanity licence plates first came out, Mr. McCaskill came home from work one day and told Lori and I about a licence plate that he had seen. They were rare, so when you saw one, it stood out. It read "ILBCNU". Lori and I pondered for a couple of days about what "Ill bick new" meant, until it suddenly struck Lori that it meant "I'll be seein' you"!. I just remember Mr. McCaskill smiling a secret smile because we just couldn't figure it out. I think were were about 11 or 12 at the time. We laughed about that for years. To the McCaskill family....I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. McCaskill was such a nice man, and I'm sure his passing will leave a gap where he once was. I hope the fond memories you have of him bring you comfort through this difficult time. With sincerest sympathy...Laura Finlayson (nee Davis) - Posted by: Laura Finlayson (nee Davis) (Friend of daughter) on: Jun 21, 2018

I was very saddened to read about the passing of my old friend, Don. He and I spent many years on the Golden Falcon Golf Committee. He always offered well thought out suggestions to better the tournament and his advice was always respected, Don was a kind and thoughtful person. Rest in peace, my friend. - Posted by: Frank Clark (friend) on: Jun 19, 2018
