WANDA LYNNE HELMAN July 31, 1950 - June 13, 2018 It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, Wanda Helman. After a lengthy illness, the angels have taken their newest addition to her new home. Predeceased by her parents, Agnes and Joseph Helman, older brother Camille Helman, and sister Diane Gauthier; Wanda is survived by her twin sister Wendy McCloy, brother Richard Helman, and sisters, Beverly Marion and Sharon Helman. Also left behind, were her many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews. Born in Carman, Manitoba, Wanda fulfilled her dream of being a caregiver by graduating from Nursing in Winnipeg. After working in Winnipeg for a few years, she applied for a job with Health Canada to be a nurse in the Northern communities of Manitoba. This was meant to be. Wanda devoted a large part of her life working up north, as a gifted and caring nurse. She loved the children, the elders and their families. Wanda was also an excellent cook, enjoying making meals for family, friends, and co-workers. She also was a great decorator, movie buff, and lover of the 1960s music. Christmas was her favourite season, especially for decorating. Wanda was always happy to spend time with the younger generation of family, excited to hear about what was going on in their lives. Wanda also had a strong faith and was a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. She was an avid member with many friends within the church. During her illness, the church was an important part of her strength and faith. Many thanks for the counsel given to Wanda throughout her illness, by Father Stan Jaworski and Monsignor Comeault. We would also like to thank the caring and compassionate nurses and doctors at Grace Hospital. They were very kind and the dedicated care they showed to Wanda during her short stay was beautiful. A celebration of Wanda's life will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 4588 Roblin Blvd., Winnipeg, MB, on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, we ask that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • We are so sad to hear of Wanda's passing. For 30 years she made frequent visits to Winnipeg from northern communities where she served as a nurse. Nicole and I would adjust her hair color and cuts and kibitz with her and her sisters (Wendy and Sharon) during appointments at the salon. Wanda had a strong faith and an unconditional love for her family and was never without mentioning them. She will be missed by us all. R.I.P. • My deepest sympathies to the family. I had taken Communion to Wanda a few times when she lived in Ridgewood Estates. She was a very devout Catholic and I know that the Good Lord took her to him. May she rest in the peace of Christ! - Posted by: Mary Bibik (Friend) on: Jun 17, 2018

  • Wanda was an inspiration and an amazingly caring and thoughtful friend. I will remember her always. I met Wanda in Shamattawa my first year teaching. She took me under her wing and we spent many nights cooking, laughing, and watching movies. During our time off from the North she introduced me to her amazing family who I became very fond of. Especially Wendy and Jared. I know that she will be missed by all who knew her. I was truly blessed by her friendship and will cherish the memories. God Bless and Rest In Peace Wanda - Posted by: SHAUNA WISMER (Friend) on: Jun 16, 2018
