PATRICK JOSEPH ARNOLD FARMER (ARNIE) Sadly on June 15, 2018, Patrick Joseph Arnold Farmer (Arnie) left us to join our Heavenly Father just weeks after his 85th birthday. Dad was born May 8, 1933 in Kinkora, Prince Edward Island. He was predeceased by his parents, Urban and Mary Farmer (nee White), sister Lenora Pendergast, and brother James Farmer (Jimmy). He is survived by his three children, Wes (Shelly), Denise, and Ron (Kristina); and his seven grandchildren, Melissa (Kaj), Tamara (Jazz), Jessica, Courtney, Braedy, Kajla and Jenna. He is also survived by his sister Therese Ross (Larry) from Calgary, Alberta, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family and lifelong friends. In 1941, Dad's family moved from PEI to Winnipeg, MB, where they settled in East Kildonan. He married Myra Johnson in 1963 and they started their family soon after, first living in Winnipeg, then moving out to Springfield in 1971. Dad worked for the Canadian National Railroad for 36 years as a journeyman machinist, millwright and heavy-duty mechanic. He was a very handy man and used his talents in many different ways, not only for his family but in the community we lived in as well. He was an active member of the Oakbank Community Club and served as President and was instrumental in the first expansion of the arena. He was a longstanding member of the Knights of Columbus of Cooks Creek and was actively involved in building the Knights of Columbus Hall on Zora Road, now known as Cooks Creek Community Centre. More recently, he shared his talents to create the wrought-iron plant hangers that are visible down Main Street Oakbank as part of the Oakbank Beautification Committee. The church was also a very important part of Dad's life. Dad contributed his time and talents in many different ways to the St. Michael's Parish in Cooks Creek. Dad suffered two brain aneurysms in 2006 and 2012. By the Grace of God, he survived both, but was not able to continue driving. This was hard for Dad as he loved to drive, whether to Princess Auto or the bakery in Selkirk. But most of all, he loved to drop in to visit his kids and grandchildren and rarely missed watching any of their activities. We are very thankful for his stubborn Irish determination to fight to stay with us and we thank God for giving him, and us, those extra years. We would like to thank all the residents and staff at Springfield Place for being good friends and neighbours and always watching out for him. Thank you to the health care teams in Springfield, Concordia and Beausejour Hospitals, and most of all thank you to the staff at Betel Home in Selkirk. A special thank you to nurse Lindsay who was there not only for Dad but for our family. Lindsay you are an amazing person, truly we are blessed to have had you there with all of us. We will be celebrating Dad's life on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Church in Cooks Creek. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dad's memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society or a charity of your choice. seasonsfunerals.ca

  • Condolences to Arnie’s Family. Knew the man for many years dating back to the 1980s working with CN and then watching our grandchildren playing hockey and ringette. Rest in peace Arnie. - Posted by: Gord Ducharme (CN Rail ) on: Jun 22, 2018

  • I have known the Farmer family since 1973 when we moved down the road from them. In those days a close neighbor was a mile away. I always enjoyed Mr. Farmer's company, the conversation was always interesting, entertaining, and welcomed. Wes, Ron, Denise, and family, please accept my (and my family's) heartfelt condolences during this difficult time. - Posted by: Cam Bakker (Friend ) on: Jun 21, 2018

  • We offer our condolences to Arnie's family. Arnie was one of the first people we met when we first attended church at St. Michaels in Cooks Creek. He was a "Greeter" who introduced himself and the very next Sunday actually greeted us by name and thereafter. He was always very kind and a progressive man who kept up with the times! It was a pleasure to know Arnie who made us feel welcomed right from the start! He will be missed. - Posted by: Wendy and Joe Krupnik (Friends from Church) on: Jun 20, 2018

  • I was shocked when I saw Arnold's picture in the paper this morning. Please accept my deepest sympathy in his passing. Denise - I am sorry but also know he's been through so much that he is at rest now. It was always so nice to see him (and you). - Posted by: Dianne (Winnipeg Hearing Centres) on: Jun 19, 2018
