EDWARD GARLICKI April 4, 1930 - June 17, 2018 It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Edward Garlicki. Edward passed away at Riverview Health Centre, after a lengthy battle with dementia, on June 17, 2018 - Father's Day. Edward was born in Kielce, Poland on April 4, 1930 to Edward and Maria Garlicki. Though his childhood was during the Second World War nothing could stop Edward from bettering and fulfilling his life's goals than to marry his bride Krystyna on January 24, 1962 and come to Canada. He spent most of his life in Winnipeg and he started his career as a tailor, he later found his passion in construction, just like his father, a mason who perished in a concentration camp in the ending days of the Second World War. He had a great love of music, dancing and animals, and he always made sure he was impeccably dressed as a gentleman should be. Ed was always charming with his blue eyes and bright smile everywhere he went and was a well-known favourite when he attended Washniak's Auctions. He was always looking to find those perfect pieces of furniture to refinish. Ed knew to stop loading his beloved Ford Ranger with his prized bounties only once the mud flaps rubbed the ground. Travelling was always something on his mind whether it was visiting family and old friends in Poland, his daughter in Scottsdale or enjoying Mexico with Krystyna in the later years. Each trip he fell more in love with that country, and always tried to find a plan to move there. Although it was Winnipeg that held him dear forever, along with Krystyna, his four lovely daughters, sisters, brother and numerous friends that would share his interest of the "Jackpot"; he yearned for his beloved Poland. Ed was a proud, hard-working man who gave everything asked of him by his family and friends throughout his life and it gave him great happiness, it was who he was. That is his true legacy. Edward is survived by his wife Krystyna, of 57 years; daughters, Lucy (husband Gregory Chartier), Ursula (Fred), Elizabeth (Richard) and Charlotte (Brent); grandchildren, Gabriel, Hannah, Siggi and Natty; sisters, Jean Szyszka, Helen Dziech; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at the St. John Brebeuf Parish at 1707 John Brebeuf Place, Winnipeg, MB.
