MUI (LILY) YUEN
Born: Aug 12, 1939
Date of Passing: Jun 19, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMUI (LILY) YUEN August 12, 1939 - June 19, 2018 With great sadness, we announce our beloved mother and grandmother Lily passed away peacefully with her children by her side. Poh-Poh will be lovingly remembered by her children, Stanley, Walter, Frances (Randy), Shirley, David and granddaughters, Marie and Stephanie. Lily was predeceased by her husband Suey and by her mother Yuk. Lily was born in Heshan, China, then moved to Hong Kong in her late teens and worked as a seamstress. In 1964, she married Suey and immigrated to Canada. Together, they owned and operated the Rio Cafe restaurant in Souris, Manitoba, where she learned English and formed many lasting friendships. Despite the long hours working at the restaurant, she prioritized the needs of her children before her own - cooking delicious home cooked meals, teaching math and Chinese, saving to ensure they all could attend post secondary education and encouraging them to "keep going" and to try their best. In 2003, Lily and Suey retired and moved to Winnipeg to be closer to most of her children. She continued making many friendships at church and in the "big city". In her retirement, Lily enjoyed going to the beach, completing word search puzzles, spending time in casinos and travelling to visit friends and family. She especially enjoyed time with her granddaughters, Marie and Stephanie and watching Walter's many half marathons. Some of her favourite places she visited included Clear Lake, Grand Beach, Banff, Vancouver, Florida and Singapore. The family would like to thank all the wonderful caring staff of Comforts of Home Care over the past two years after her stroke, as well as the hospital staff at Victoria General and Grace who provided compassionate care. Thank you to all Mom's friends and family for their friendship, prayers and love - she really appreciated all the support! A public visitation will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 27 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will also be held at Glen Eden on Thursday, June 28, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Souris Glenwood Foundation or the Heart & Stroke Foundation. We love you Mom and will forever treasure you in our hearts! Friends and family may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenedenmemorial.ca Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery 204-338-7111

I've lost contact with Lily's family since my uncle Suey YUEN passed away 12 /13 years ago. Im 2018 we were told by my uncle who's in China that aunt Lily passed away and that was the last time we heard from uncle Suey's family. Aunt Lily was the only contact we had with uncle Suey's family. I lost the pictures and video tapes that my uncle Suey sent me when I first came to US but I remember there's picture my uncle Suey sent me back then with his cafe's name on it. Stanley, Walter, Frances (Randy), Shirley, David, Marie and Stephanie, I'm sending my condolence to your lost. My mom Ling misses her uncle so much and she really wants to visit uncle Suey's tomb. Lily, one of a kind special women! We visited often on our little corner in the Souis Business area. She was a kind, caring lady with a sense of humor that I loved. She was a true entrepreneur. Always working hard for her family, her business, and her community. My Dad Georgie as Lily called him always loved getting his cigars there. I remember her amazing memory for people. When my kids were grown and away from home every time I was in the Rio she would ask how they were, where they were, and what they were doing now! She would have made an awesome politician with that memory for people! A beautiful lady! - Posted by: Rae McBurney (Friend) on: Jun 25, 2018

Lilly was such a sopecial lady, always had smiles for me and my children. She was a very dear friend to our Mother, Olive Tanguay, from Souris, then spent meal times together at the Souris Rio Cafe, we both really missed Lilly when she moved away to Wpg. but were so glad she could be with her children, it was always a treat when they brought her out for a visit. Rest In Peace our dear sweet Lily, time to Rest, and thank you to all her family for being the kind and loving family you were to your dear Mother! We are very sorry to hear of Lily’s passing. She was so very cheerful & friendly to us when our family moved to Souris to run the bakery next door to the cafe. She was so very proud of you children & often shared your progress with our mother who had many fond memories of Lily. - Posted by: Judy Dandridge & Darcie Donogh (Neighbours) on: Jun 25, 2018
