Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATARYNA (KAY) GULENCHYN (nee SACHATSKY) Our mother passed away peacefully on June 23, 2018 at the age of 92. Kay was predeceased by her husband Michael in 2001, sisters, Lidia, Olga and Nellie, brothers, Bill and Nick (her twin), and granddaughter Patricia. She will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Ron (Anne) and Wayne (Zenovia); grandchildren, Jenna Morris (Lyle), Lauren Brown (Travis), Natalie Besyk (Brad) and Melanie Schultz (Chad); 10 great-grandchildren; and her very special friend Ernie Steffensen. She will also be remembered by her brothers, Mike (Amy) and Stafford (Joan), and sisters, Mary Gulenchyn and Jennie Gilchuk. Kay was born in Anelowka, Poland on December 18, 1925. She was five when her family immigrated to Canada in 1930. They settled on a farm 10 miles outside of Arran, Saskatchewan. During her teen years Kay moved to Winnipeg where she worked at Canada Packers, then as a waitress at the White House Restaurant and later at Daishowa and Reed Packaging. Kay loved gardening and everything flourished under her care. She was a hard-working woman and always kept busy. She enjoyed spending weekends and summers at Camps Rusalka and Veselka with Dad and their friends. She was a great cook and we often enjoyed the many Ukrainian dishes she lovingly prepared for us. During this past year, Mom spent time in River Ridge II Transitional Health Care Facility and most recently at the Holy Family Personal Care Home. We would like to sincerely thank the staff at both facilities for their compassionate care. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 30 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, with Father Isadore Dziadyk, OSBM, officiating. Interment and reception will follow. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenedenmemorial.ca. Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery 204-338-7111
