BRUNO ZAPPIA It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved father Bruno Zappia on June 26, 2018 at the age of 80 years. He leaves to mourn his wife of 52 years, Natalina, his children, Domenico (Nicki), Frank (Jill) and Mauro (Julie Kozak) and his granddaughters, Stephanie, Jenna and Natalina. He is survived by his three sisters, Catterina, Lina and Virginia in Italy and numerous family, in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins in Italy and Canada. He was predeceased by his parents, Domenico and Maria Zappia, brothers, Antonio, Giuseppe and Giovanni, his sister Concetta and his brothers-in-law, Rocco Papalia, Luigi Morocco, Rodolfo Accornero and sister-in-law Analisa Zappia. Dad was born in Melito Di Porto Salvo, Provincia Di Reggio Calabria, Italy on April 29, 1938 and immigrated to Canada in 1967. He arrived with his wife and his five month old son Domenico. Dad worked his whole life in construction, proudly retiring from a 34-year career with Con Force Structures. A hard life as a manual labourer, he was a man who sacrificed to provide for his wife and three boys. Dad always loved to tell fun anecdotes and long stories of his younger years in Italy to anyone who would listen. An avid gardener, he oversaw many gardens in his West End neighbourhood he beloved. In his retirement years, a typical day would consist of a work out at Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex, a card game at X-Cues Billiards with friends, kilometers of walking up and down Sargent Avenue and of course tending to his many vegetable plots. He was often mentioned as everyone's favourite uncle or brother-in-law or that guy that would make you smile and could never say no. We would like to thank the staff of the ICU, 5th floor and emergency departments of the Grace Hospital. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Papa's name to the Alzheimer Society Manitoba. We will miss you and love you and can never thank you enough for all that you did for us. Viewing will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2018 with service to follow at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Avenue.
