JOHN (JACK) DAVIDSON MCLAUCHLAN April 9, 1928 - January 1, 2018 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Jack, on January 1, 2018. Jack is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 67 years, Phyllis; son Gerry (Aija); daughter-in-law Grace; granddaughter and grandsons, Melissa (Rahim), Daryl (Krista), Michael (Cindy), Jeff (Lindsay); and great-grandchildren, Aniq, Zane; Braden, Cohen; Greyson, Jacob; Jack and Andy. He is also survived by sister-in-law Lena (Bill), and numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by parents John and Annie, his sister Jean, and his son Richard. Jack was born in Winnipeg on April 9, 1928. He grew up in the West End on Sherburn Street, where he met and married the love of his life, Phyllis, in 1950. At the age of 16, Jack started his career with C.P.R. as a machinist, where he became known as Barney, and continued until his retirement on October 17, 1986. He spent his last years at C.P.R. in the torch room, from where he took great pride and pleasure in making iron-works for family and friends. During his years at the railroad, Jack made many life-long friends, whom he kept in touch with frequently during his remaining years. He became an avid member of the Grand Lodge of Manitoba Free Mason's in 1963. Travelling and spending time with family meant everything to Jack. Vacations were extremely important to him; from rental cottages at Grand Beach to helping his late brother-in-law, Nick (Muriel) build and enjoy the cabin at West Hawk Lake. He spent many weekends and summer days casting his line in the water, always hoping to catch the "big one". Jack loved "tinkering" in his workshop and long walks with Koda, who always made sure Jack found his way home. Jack's last few years were spent at the Golden West Centennial Lodge, which he lovingly called "home" in the last while. Special thanks to all the staff that facilitated creating an atmosphere so loving and comfortable for Jack! He was an amazing human being, loved by all who knew him. He will be missed tremendously! A celebration of Jack's life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., West St. Paul, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery 204-338-7111
