CHOI YUK HO (nee KWAN) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Choi Yuk Ho, on July 4, 2018. Choi passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side, after a long and courageous battle with cancer at the age of 84. Choi was born in Hoi Ping, Canton, China on December 20, 1933. She was the youngest of five daughters and was predeceased by her husband Fuk Tin and her son Wai Kwong (Tony). She is survived by her sons, Wai Yong (Sam) and Wai Man (Raymond); daughters-in-law, Marietta and Xiao Yu (Michelle); grandchildren, Mabelyn (Patrick), Kimberly (Samuel), Timothy (Crystal) and Ming Zhen (Jenny); and great-grandchildren, Kiana, Kobe, and Mila. Choi immigrated to Hong Kong at the age of 18 where she married her husband and raised her three sons. Choi was a hard-working woman who was determined that her sons receive the best education. At the age of 46, she and her husband settled in Winnipeg to be with their sons. She worked at a garment factory until her retirement where she made many lifelong friends. Never one to lavish on herself, she made certain the needs of her family were taken care of before her own. She was happiest going out for yum cha (dim sum) with her family and one of her favourite past times was tending to her large vegetable garden. She also loved to cook and sew. She often made shirts and jackets for her family and loved to cook a variety of delicious Chinese dishes for them. We are grateful for the kindness and compassion shown to her during her final days in the palliative care unit at Riverview Health Centre, especially to all of the nursing staff on the 3E unit. In accordance with her wishes, a private family service and interment will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honour to CancerCare Manitoba.
