DONALD WALLACE TOYNE
Date of Passing: Jul 10, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD WALLACE TOYNE It is with great sadness that the family of Donald Wallace Toyne announce his very sudden and unexpected passing, on July 10, 2018, at the age of 68. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 43 years Nancy, his son Kevin (Kathy) and grandchildren, Nayda and Donan; his son Brett (Jacqueline) and grandchildren, Devon, Avery, Haidyn and Blake. He is survived by his brother Al (Annette), and many cousins. Uncle Don loved all his many nieces and nephews and was honoured to help guide niece Vickie through her life. Don was predeceased by his parents, Bert and Peggy Toyne, brother Bruce, and sister Judy. Born in Winnipeg, Don grew up in Transcona where he met Nancy in 1969 and they became inseparable. He was a wonderfully loving and devoted husband and father. Don and Nancy raised their boys in Oakbank. He lived for his boys and was so very proud of them and all their accomplishments over the years. Grandad loved all his grandbabies so very much and could hardly wait for them to arrive for swims, barbeques, parties and sleepovers. Captain Don loved Sioux Narrows every summer and teaching his grandbabies how to fish. After delivering for Transcona's drugstores and working at Uncle Ben's Breweries, Don's business career began when he opened the Transcona Pic-a-Pop store, which led to purchasing the Quick Stop Convenience store in Transcona and then operating Manitoba's Mac's Convenience stores. Finally, Don became a successful and beloved Subway franchisee. Don introduced Frito-Lay chips to Manitoba and helped bring Paul Newman's salad dressings to Canada. Don was kind, generous and giving of himself to everyone in his personal and professional life. He devoted many hours of time back to his community. He was a hockey coach, was instrumental in setting up Oakbank's Hockey School, was an original director of the Transcona Springfield Education Foundation and through his Subways, supported schools, charities and community groups. Don has been cremated after a private family service and his ashes will rest in the Lake of the Woods. Donations in Don's memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Don, definitely a caring, giving and family man. It was with such saddness that he is gone now. I am certain without any doubt that whoever came into contact with him has been blessed. My heart goes out to Nancy, Kevin, Brett, and their extended families. I have known Don for almost 50 years and I consider him as one of the nicest and generous persons you could ever meet, Whenever we ran into each other, it was always a time to catch up. He would always ask me about my family and how everyone was doing. A couple of my nieces as well as two of my younger brothers worked for the Toynes and were always treated well and with the upmost respect. He will be missed by all his friends and business associates, of which there are too many to list. I know I will remember all the good times we shared, and his infectious laugh. Peace to your family Nancy and especially, Peace to Don, you will be missed. Rod Suggitt - Posted by: Rodney Suggitt (Very good friend) on: Jul 21, 2018

I had know Don since he took over the Subway on Kildare many years ago. He gave me the chance to move onto managing his brand new Subway at Kildonan Place. That was a great learning experience and I enjoyed working for Don and Nancy. I could see the love between them and so very sad to hear that he passed away. Condolences to the family. - Posted by: Cheryl Sokol (Past manager ) on: Jul 21, 2018
