DOREEN EILEEN PICKARD (nee SWAIN) It is with sadness we announce the passing of our mom, grandma, and great-grandma, Doreen Eileen Pickard (nee Swain) on July 23, 2018. She was predeceased by her husband Chuck, parents, Rhoda and Clark Swain. She will be lovingly missed by daughter Nadeen (Russ), grandsons, Richard and Sean (Amanda); daughter Tannis (Mike), grand-children, Melyssa (Jay), Andrew (Jackie), Tegan (Travis), great-grandsons, Charles and Oliver; son Charlie (Mitzi), grandchildren, Chase and Tia; step-son Glenn (Janice), grandchildren, Glenn, Duncan and Stephanie. Mom was born in Winnipeg, November 4, 1930 and enjoyed many summers on her grandparents' farm in Popular Point. It was there that she met and later married Chuck in 1954. She spent the early years of her marriage as an army wife, travelling to posts in Wainwright, Calgary and Neepawa. Afterwards they settled in Manitoba to raise their family in Transcona. Mom was very proud of her career as a payroll clerk for Robinson Little and later with Safeway, retiring in 1994 to spend more time at home with Chuck and at their cottage in St. Ambroise. Mom loved to travel whether it was long road trips visiting family and friends out west, or travelling to Europe with long-time friends. She also enjoyed many hours of reading on her balcony and then sharing her love of books with a friend. But her greatest passion was her family. Christmas was a s pecial time for her as she loved to shop, bake, cook and host dinners for family and friends. In later years she enjoyed spending special occasions in the homes of her children. Mom had no greater pleasure than spending time with her children, grandchildren and especially her great-grandsons. A small piece of you will remain in our hearts and memories forever. A memorial service is planned for July 30, 2018, 10:00 am at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, with Carol Fletcher presiding. A private interment will take place. In lieu of flowers please send donations in Doreen's name to CancerCare Manitoba.
