MAUREEN (MAURY) HILL (nee MALONE) April 18, 1956 - August 1, 2018 On August 1, 2018, Maury passed away peacefully at Grace Hospital with her family by her side. Maury is survived by her husband of 35 years, William Hill, sons, Patrick and Adam Hill, mother Joan Malone, sister Janet Hawkings (Jack), brothers, Peter Malone (Bea), Brian Malone (Deb) and Paul Malone (Patti), sister-in-law Agnes Bellamy (Dave), brothers-in-law, Fergus Hill (Ruth), John Hill (Wendy), Mark Hill (Joan) and her many nieces and nephews. Maury was predeceased by her father Maurice (Bud) Malone, mother-in-law Evelyn Hill and father-in-law Joseph Hill. Maury was born April 18, 1956 in Lacombe, Alberta. At an early age Maury developed a passion for horses and skiing. Summers were spent riding, in pony club and Three Day Event competitions. Maury especially enjoyed training and schooling horses. Winters were spent at the local ski hill and on family ski trips where Maury became an accomplished skier. In 1974 she moved to Calgary to attend the University of Calgary, graduating with a Bachelor of Physical Education in 1978. After backpacking through Europe, she settled into a job at the YMCA in Red Deer. Maury and William were married on June 18, 1983 and moved to Calgary, where she continued her work with the YMCA. With the birth of their children, Maury gave up her career outside the home and focused her energy on her beloved boys. She was active in their school and sports activities, coaching their early sports teams, organizing music lessons, recreational activities and family vacations. She passed on her passion for downhill skiing and there was always at least one annual trip to the mountains for skiing with family and friends. With the boys in school, she pursued her new passion for golf. She was an active member at Breezy Bend Country Club, serving on the women's executive in various capacities and the golf course became a large part of the Hill's social life in the summer. Maury enjoyed curling, became an avid Jets fan, and loved to travel when work and family life allowed. Maury had a passion for life, and faced every day, good or bad, with good-natured enthusiasm. She loved people and her outgoing and caring nature allowed her to develop and maintain a large circle of friends in the several communities where she had lived. She will be sadly missed by all those who had the good fortune to know her. The family would like to thank all the friends and family who were by Maury's side during her four-year battle with cancer. Special thanks to HSC CancerCare and WRHA Palliative Care Program staff for the excellent and compassionate care given to Maury. Cremation has taken place and in keeping with her wishes, no funeral service will be held. Donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. INTEGRITY Cremation & Funeral Planning 204 295 5408

I'm deeply saddened to hear this news about Maury. She was a bright light and so much fun during our Eau Claire YMCA times, spent running Short and Long Zoo having coffee and chasing the boys around. I have so many fond memories of getting together with Maury and Bill and the boys, going skiing, having birthday parties and having dinner. I've missed this family so much since they left Calgary! Bill, Patrick and Adam, my deepest condolences to you all. I'll never forget Maury during the brief time we spent together in Calgary - indeed, every memory of her will be a blessing. xo Sharon, Bob, Ben and Sandy. As a fellow horse enthusiast and Red Deer Pony Club member, I met Maury in 1978. Our friendship was immediate and I was honoured to become roommates with her and Janet at Coates’s farm in 1981. So many wonderful memories of those days horsing around. We once travelled with horses in tow to Maple Ridge and sang everything we could think for 12 hours to keep Mr.Coates awake. That was Maury...always full of pizazz. Her confidence, wisdom, outlook and ability to see the good in everything had a huge influence on me back then and still does to this day. A true beauty inside and out....Love you Moke! - Posted by: Karen Gilmour (Friend) on: Aug 05, 2018

My sincerest condolences to Bill, Patrick and Adam and all extended family members. I had the privilege of growing up with Maury. We had so many amazing experiences together; playing volleyball and basketball, getting into trouble during sleepovers, sharing the freedom of heading out on road trips to ski, enjoy riding events, visit friends, or explore. We lived together while at the U of C, worked together for a summer in Granisle and, along the way, shared many a Caesar or Martini. She was a realist and always offered her opinions ‘straight up’. I admired her for that and will always consider her my best friend. I’m so glad I had one last chance to spend a little time with her this summer. I grieve her loss but will cherish the memories. My heart goes out to Bill, the boys, the family. - Posted by: Joan Olafson (Friend) on: Aug 05, 2018
