Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • To Michelle and Derek and families: Sorry to hear of your dad's passing, thinking of you. Take care, Aunt Ruth - Posted by: Ruth & Paul Atherton, Sarah, Katherine and families (Family) on: Aug 12, 2018

  • Chuck was a very incredible person and I was blessed to have known both he and Sharon through the years. When I started working at UFCW many years ago, Chuck was one of the first people who I worked for. He was a strong person and strong in his efforts to help the members and he fought for their rights and benefits. He may have come across as gruff, at times, but he was also a very genuine and caring person to all who knew him. The Union was his life and through his career he made a difference in so many lives. Chuck, you will be deeply missed and I know Sharon was in Heaven with open arms welcoming you home. - Posted by: Cathy Fenske (Friend) on: Aug 07, 2018

  • It's been 25 plus years since I last saw Chuck but the few years I worked with him were very memorable. He was an awesome person. He once quoted me a line that I still remember and follow to this day, "why talk, when you can listen." And the many references to "Clarence Darrow" RIP good friend. - Posted by: Cliff (Friend) on: Aug 05, 2018

  • My condolences to the family. I only met Chuck a few times while I worked at Safeway. I remember the union UFCW getting a new business rep and that was Chuck. I worked in HR. A little while later I heard from our Industrial Relations dept. that he represented the union in an arbitration hearing. I guess after seeing the bills from the lawyers and sitting in several hearings, he thought he could do just as a good a job and save the union a lot of money. He was successful at representing his workers at hearings. I think back and perhaps he missed his calling by going into law. He could have been our generation's Perry Mason. The last time I saw him was at Vic Pinchin's retirement where he gave a very good speech that I vividly remember. I am sure that others would have lots to say about Chuck's career in labour relations. Chuck was one of those people who left you with good memories. - Posted by: Colin Dederick (Business collague) on: Aug 05, 2018

  • Chuck was a friend in arms, trade union movement on the Union Retirees Executive Board for over 20 years. He had a gift in drafting up by-laws for the organization, was president of the local in Ontario, and returned to Winnipeg local 832 UFCW. He was an activist and dedicated to the workers' cause. He was a valuable board member that creates a void which will never be filled. Memories for those many years will never be forgotten.
