WRAY REGINALD JENSEN It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wray Reginald Jensen, a dedicated father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Surrounded by loved ones, Wray died peacefully on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at the Seven Oaks Hospital, in Winnipeg. He was 83. Wray was born on December 15, 1934, to Reidar and Dolly Jensen at the Inwood Hotel. Following his father's service overseas during the war, the family moved to a farm near Argyle, Manitoba, where Wray finished his schooling in Grade 11. After finishing high school, Wray did a short stint as a teacher in the Inwood School. Following this, he moved to Saskatchewan where he trained as a Psychiatric nurse, afterwards joining the Air Force as a pilot and instructor. Wray met Shirley at an Argyle dance and they wed on May 19, 1956. While Wray was in the Air Force, they lived in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, where their first daughter, Jacqueline, was born. The small family then moved to an Air Force base in France, where Patricia and Christina were born. Following their time in France, they returned to Canada to live in Vancouver, where Peter was born, and then moved on to Winnipeg. After leaving the Air Force, Wray joined Air Canada as a pilot, where he continued to work until his retirement in 1994. Over the years he flew the DC9, 727 and 767. In 1975, the family moved to Stonewall, where Wray became an active participant in both the community and Catholic Church. Many in the community knew Wray for his good works and active lifestyle, often spotted on his red bike everyday. Wray and Shirley were world travellers, and enjoyed the arrival of many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Wray will be warmly remembered as a generous and witty individual who loved being outdoors. He was passionate about maintaining an active lifestyle and was a dedicated member of his church. A true Jensen, Wray lived his life on his own terms. He had strong opinions on how things should be done and voiced them openly. Wray leaves us with a wealth of memories and hearts full of love. Wray leaves behind his children, Jacqueline, Patricia, Christina (Daniel) and Peter (Deborah); his grandchildren, Riley, Tayler, Avery, Jeffrey (Amanda), Myles, Tristan, Jessie (Bill), Braydon, Justin (Megan) and Kaitlyn; great-grandchildren, Nikki, Ryder, Ellis, Owen and Liam; and his sister Audrey (Nick) Lebedeff. He is now joined in heaven with his loving wife Shirley, as well as his parents, Reider and Dolly, his brother Ross, and his great-granddaughter Rayann. Prayers will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. followed by the funeral on Friday, August 10, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ The King Catholic Church, Stonewall with a reception to follow. Father Barry Schoonbaert will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Wray's life. The family would like to thank hospital staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for their efforts, care and dedication. Ken Loehmer Funeral Service 204-886-0404

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I remember many times Wray and I would listen to and watch the Sask Riders ( my team ) and his Bombers always good natured ribbing . Fourteen years of great advice and conversation we would have while driving up to Regina for the labour day classic and the many times Wray had to buy me dinner because the Riders would win . The deal was who’s ever team lost , you had to by dinner , great times . I will miss Wray although we never saw much of each other in the latter years I still thought a lot of him and he will always hold a special place in my life . - Posted by: Mel (Son in-law ) on: Oct 24, 2018

  • Please accept my sincere sympathy for the loss of your Father. I did not know brother Wray personally, but I really would like to reach one of his children. - Posted by: Ulysse Poirier (Field Agent with Knights of Columbus Insurance) on: Oct 04, 2018

  • So sorry to hear about your Dad and felt bad that I couldn't make it to the funeral. We just didn't seem to click on the phone calls. He will be missed in the family and by me. Please accept my condolences and will phone another day when you're all not so busy as I know there are lots to take care of. Hugs all around. - Posted by: Eileen Schoffer S (Cousin) on: Aug 14, 2018

  • I am very sorry to read of Wray passing. I will miss encountering him as he rides his trike past his former residence and just about anywhere in town! I enjoyed having intelligent conversation with him whenever we would meet. He was a determined man that was not about to let his disability from stroke beat him. That determination lives on as inspiration in those lucky people who knew him. I hope the next life presents Wray with a big reward for living this life as a kind, gentle man! - Posted by: Murray Mulligan (Former neighbour...396 6th Ave South) on: Aug 12, 2018

  • 1975, as a junior and nervous f/a , I met (Captain) Wray Jensen. I had an instant affection for that man. He knew exactly what to say to make you feel confident and part of the crew. He was a father image. After my move to Toronto (1987) I was happy to run into Wray when our flights crossed around the country, and catch up about his family. He was very proud of them. Enjoy your LAST FLIGHT. You'll be missed. - Posted by: Jacques Gargour (Retired Air Canada Flight Attendant ) on: Aug 10, 2018
