GEORGE JOSEPH BORSOS
Date of Passing: Aug 07, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE JOSEPH BORSOS 1931 - 2018 George died peacefully, at home, on August 7, 2018. Predeceased by his beloved wife Gwenn (2011), he will be deeply missed by his daughters, Karen (Carmen Arnone), Brenda (Michael Evans), Dawn (Jon McGoey) and grandchildren, Andrew and Nikki Evans, Michael and Keelan McGoey. He also leaves to mourn his sister Anne Borsos, sister-in-law Lila Buchan, niece Arleen Simmons and family. Born to Hungarian immigrants, George was raised in a home filled with love and chicken paprikash. From his early school years at Pinkham through to graduation from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate, many lifelong friendships were made. Though he attended the same high school as Gwenn, it was not until he began his career at Winnipeg Hydro that the courting began. They were married in 1955 and after the girls were born George quickly became outnumbered at Sunday dinners by the women around the table - Gwenn, their three daughters, his sister and his mother-in-law. Getting a word in edgewise was a challenge but he had enduring patience. George was quiet and unassuming but exuded a warmth and sense of humour that drew people to him. Every day after work, he would retreat to the St. James "Y" for the daily run with his chums. There were hunting weekends away with his best buddy Glenn McWhinney, and once retired, many rounds on the golf course, and lots of laughs over java with the guys' coffee club. He was well respected as a work colleague, an employer and as an active member of the congregation at Silver Heights United Church. It was the simple pleasures in life that gave George the most joy. A devoted husband, father and grandfather he could often be found on a ski hill with the family, attending a gymnastics competition, a soccer match, a hockey or football game or working as a timer at a swim meet. Whether he was cleaning up the kitchen or holding the tissues when the girls' early romances withered out, he embraced it all with the love and dignity that defined him. The sky is one star brighter and Gwenn is again baking cookies for her favourite guy. The family would like to thank Dr. A. N. Schroeder and his assistant Cathy for their years of wonderful care and assistance. Heartfelt gratitude as well, to the amazing staff working in the Arbour at Brightwater Senior Living, for their kindness and personal dedication to George over the past year. A service in memory of George will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 24, at Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Rehabilitation Foundation, 1155 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 3G1. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

George and I were in the same grade at Pinkham School many years ago in the early 1940s. I remember him as a nice kid and I am pleased he had such a good life and was so well-loved - Posted by: Tom Peterson (Acquaintance) on: Aug 28, 2018

Met George at my first job out of high school. Worked at Winnipeg Hydro on Notre Dame. George was in charge of Appliance Service Division. I worked their for over 3 years before returning to school. Kept in touch for a number of years and would go for coffee a couple of times a year. The last time at Kelekis on Main where George knew a lot of the people. He and wife Gwenn met me for lunch. That was the last time I would have seen him...but I thought of him often. He was a wonderful person that I was honoured to have known. I was 19 when I worked at the Hydro and my mother became very ill with cancer and passed away. George would let me leave work early at various time so I could go home to help with the care of my mother. I have never forgotten his kindness, the world needs more George Borsos. So sorry to hear of his passing. - Posted by: Grant Irvine (Friend) on: Aug 21, 2018
