IRENE HENRIETTA MAYO (nee KANERVA) Peacefully, on Sunday, August 5, 2018, at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre, Irene Mayo, aged 93, passed away with her family by her side. Irene was born April 1, 1925, in Copper Cliff, Ontario, moving to Selkirk, Manitoba in 1947. She was a hardworking and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Irene enjoyed spending time with her family, caring for her animals and playing piano. She spoke fondly of the time she spent visiting family in Finland, as she was proud of Finnish heritage. Irene was predeceased by her husband Bruce; parents, Eino and Hilja; brothers, Andy and Victor; son Gordon; daughter Inez, and great-grandson Bruce. She will be sadly missed by her children, Bruce (Gale), Andrew (Rosemarie), Corinne (Lance), Edwin, Lila (James), Patrick (Judy), Betty Ann (Mike) and Alma (Dave), along with her 23 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. A celebration of Irene's life will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk, Manitoba. The family would like to thank Dr. Brown and the staff at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre for their care and compassion.
