MURIEL GRACE THOMPSON (TAYLER) 1931 - 2018 On August 4, 2018 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt passed away peacefully, at the age of 87 years. She will be greatly missed by her children, Carol (Leonard) Pressey, David (Geri-Lynn), Janet, and Gerald Thompson; grandchildren, Clinton (Lindsay), Vincent (Sara), Graham (Aleks), and Timothy (Serina); great-grandson Liam; sister Vera; brother Ernie (Gail); and her nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 61 years, Ross. Mom was a proud full-time homemaker who worked hard and reaped many rewards from raising her family. Once her children were adults and Dad was retired, she taught herself to use a video camera, which she used to document her grandchildren's lives and her many holiday travels with Dad. Mom had a deep interest in her family history which she researched for 30 years, first at the Mennonite Library and later on Ancestory.com. She compiled many family history books from her extensive research. For the most part, Mom taught herself how to use the computer so she could write letters in Word, email family and friends, research on the internet, and digitally edit her video footage. Mom was a strong supporter of Plan International and sponsored children for 50 years. She was a lifelong member of St. Alban's and St. Luke's Anglican Church. A service will be held on Monday, August 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. Our family thanks the doctors, nurses and staff for the excellent care she received at the Health Sciences Centre on the GA-4 ward. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Sincere condolences to Muriel's family. Muriel was a special woman who was married to a special man, Ross, our cousin. Over the years we have not seen Ross and Muriel frequently but kept in touch through Christmas letters and phone calls and an occasional visit. Ross' father Norman was first cousin to our father Richard Howard. Norman and Elizabeth Thompson were so supportive to the Howard, Thorvardson and Stobie families (country cousins). We treasured them. I remember attending Ross and Muriel's wedding and knowing over the years just how close they were. I am happy that I was able to speak to Muriel by phone a few months ago and to know that she was happy living in the residence in St. Vital near to her sister. • Remembering our recent visits and chats together. With love, Margaret - Posted by: Margaret Richardson (Cousin) on: Aug 09, 2018

  • Our dear Muriel attended to her husband, children and extended family over the years, deriving great pleasure from all of them. Her quiet, self-effacing manner garnered much respect from those who knew her. A lover of history, Muriel scanned many hours of pictures of St. Alban's Anglican Church and compiled DVDs of them along with a small picture album which commemorated the closure of the former Church. She and her husband Ross worked behind the scenes to promote St. Alban's through the Scouting movement, and Ross attended to the furnace room and Church building in terms of upkeep. A gentle person, whose life was dedicated to others, Muriel will be missed. - Posted by: Gail Singleton (Church Friend) on: Aug 09, 2018

  • Sorry for the loss of your mother, Dave. - Posted by: Craig Sexton (Friend of Dave’s ) on: Aug 09, 2018
