NETTIE (RON) SIMCOE July 5, 1941 - August 9, 2018 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nettie on August 9, 2018. It is a comfort for us to know that Nettie is now at peace with her beloved son Perry. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband Fred, daughter Rosemary (Kendall), sons, Bruce (Mona) and Dale (Lori), grandchildren, Nicholas (Kathleen), Jamie (Brett), Derek, Joshua, Emily (Jordan) and Sarah, as well as her great-granddaughter Amelia. Nettie was born and raised in Preeceville, Saskatchewan. She moved to Winnipeg in her 20s where she worked at Ray-o-vac. This is where she met the love of her life Fred. They recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. Nettie was an accomplished seamstress. Many young brides and bridesmaids wore her designs. She loved to sew new outfits for herself in her younger years. Nettie had a love of art. Her work is displayed throughout her house for us to remember her by. She was very proud of the Key to the Town of Teulon she received for her art work, which was chosen from the Teulon Agricultural Fair. Her love of the outdoors and gardening showed in the summer with her lovely flower beds. A loving mother and homemaker, Nettie was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends, most especially over the holidays. Cooking meals for her boys was a joy for her. Nettie was a wonderful baker. Her homemade donuts and pies were a favourite. Nettie loved to spend her evenings in the local Bingo parlors challenging the odds and winning the occasional jackpot. She was also very competitive when it came to cards. Canasta or King Pedro were favourites playing into the wee hours of the morning. She was also always good for a conversation in the shop, making you laugh at her stories. Many stories were about her heavy foot and wanting to own that fast sports car. We wish to thank the staff at Goodwin Lodge for the special care that she received. Thank you also to Father Chorney and Father Chuckry for their pastoral care. We would like to invite family and friends to celebrate her life with us. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 15 at 10:30 a.m. at the Komarno Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Komarno Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. A light lunch will be served after at the Komarno Hall to visit and share stories with Fred and family of Nettie's life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Down Syndrome Society. This an organization that provides support, information and opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome, parents, professionals and other interested persons. Nettie's son Perry was gifted with Down Syndrome and she would be proud to help support other families through this non-profit organization which is operated by volunteers. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Growing up in town, we would be at each other's homes for birthday parties, simply to play. When I think of Nettie, I think a warm Mom who always made her home open and welcoming to any of us who came by for whatever reason, and I can still hear her laugh. I was lucky enough to run into her in 2014, and she was just as warm, as interested in us as she was when we were kids. Am sending thoughts and prayers to your whole family during this time, and hope that you are comforted with memories and knowing she touched a lot of people. - Posted by: Naomi Monaster (Friend of the family) on: Aug 15, 2018

  • I have many fond memories of spending nights at Rosemary's house when we were youngsters in Komarno Elementary School. When I think of Nettie, I particularly remember her laugh and her devotion to Perry. I'm so glad I got to see her again in 2015 and visit with her for a few minutes. My thoughts and prayers are with Rosemary and the rest of the family. Praying that you all have peace in the days ahead as you think of Nettie and share stories. - Posted by: Laurie (Hamm) Reimer (Friend of Rosemary's) on: Aug 13, 2018
