Born: Sep 01, 1933
Date of Passing: Aug 12, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARCELLA ELIZABETH WESELAKE Peacefully and on her terms, surrounded by the love of her family, Marcella Elizabeth (Liz) Weselake kept that open rendezvous with the love of her life, husband Bill, on the balmy dawn of August 12, 2018. Mom was born in Sydney Mines, Cape Breton Island, NS on September 1, 1933 to Margaret and Edward Halley. It was love at first sight for our dad who was with the RCMP stationed in Cape Breton. They married on June 1, 1953 and moved back to Dad's hometown -Winnipeg. This green-eyed beauty was by his side for almost 50 years until Bill's untimely passing in 2002 and she had missed him every single day since. They settled in Garden City and had three children, Sue-Ann, Brad and Clint. Liz was always a voracious reader, a cat lover but it was her passion for gardening that filled her days after retirement. Two butterflies went out at noon And waltzed above a stream, Then stopped straight through the firmament And rested on a beam: And then together bore away Upon a shining sea, ---- Though never yet, in any port, Their coming mentioned be. An excerpt from Two Voyagers - Emily Dickinson. Liz worked for 29 years, with the City of Winnipeg Library - West Kildonan Branch. Mom and Dad travelled for several years in their retirement. However, Dad's health deteriorated and Liz became his devoted caregiver and advocate. She volunteered for several years at the Western Canadian Photographic Library. She was predeceased by her parents; her mother-in-law Leona; brothers, Peter, Ben and Daniel; sisters, Victoria, Florence and Margaret; and sister-in law Kaye. Left to cherish her memory are daughter Sue-Ann Norton (Lloyd) from Terrace, BC; sons, Brad and Clint (Karen) in Winnipeg and grandchildren, Clint (Leigh), Johnny, Jesse (Terrace), Kristyn, Nikki, Christopher and great-grandson Jaxon (Winnipeg); sister-in-law Pat Halley (Rexdale); cousin-in-law Jackie Thorney (Collingwood); nieces, Joann, Karen, Sandy, Paula, Brenda and Rhonda; as well as her entire extended family in Cape Breton. The family would like to acknowledge the work of all the home care workers that allowed Liz to stay in her home. Thanks for the caring staff at Seven Oaks Hospital that made Mom's last days peaceful. Cremation has taken place, as Mom requested, and there will be no formal service. She will be reunited with her beloved Bill at Glen Eden in Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, her favourite charities were MADD and the World Wildlife Federation (WWF). I have wonderful memories of Sue Ann's Mom dating back to the sixties in Garden City. My first memories of her were as the librarian at West Kildonan Library when it was temporarily located in Garden City High School. Books were stamped out then and I think she may have given me an extra week to return them! Later the permanent library was built on Jefferson Avenue and I would chat with Mrs. Weselake waiting for Sue Ann who worked there as a page. Because both Liz and Bill made me feel so welcome I probably spent as much time at the Weselakes as I did at my own home during our teen years. Mrs. Weselake was a great baker. I especially loved her sugar free pineapple cheesecake. She created this recipe long before sugar free foods were mainstream because Mr. Weselake was diabetic, and it was deeelicious! I remember her joy when showing you around her garden and her pride when a particular species difficult or unheard of growing in our prairie climate blossomed under her care. Mrs. Weselake was very generous and thoughtful, she celebrated many of my big life events as if I was her own daughter. Only two years ago with her health ailing, I received a retirement card that she had hand signed and it touched me more than I can ever express. Mrs. Weselake, I will never forget you and remember you always with fondness! Lisa Gardewine - Posted by: Lisa Gardewine (Best friend of daughter Sue Ann) on: Aug 19, 2018

I was so fortunate to meet this wonderful lady through her beautiful daughter years ago, my fondest memory was her smile and her laugh. I enjoyed every visit, with all her stories of Cape Breton Island. She was so young at heart, even when her health was failing. I still think of her cravings for buddy burgers every time I pass A&W. She will be missed. With Deepest Sympathy to her family, Terry & John Jameson - Posted by: Terry Jameson (Friend) on: Aug 19, 2018
