My deepest condolences to Judy and to the rest of the growing family. I had not seen Jack in many years, but I fondly recall the contributions, both scientific and social, that Jack made at the Experimental Lakes Area. I particularly recall the Variety Night presentation by Jack and the "Klaverkamp Klan" called "Going on a Bear Hunt". His musical contributions included a memorable rendition of "Cool Water", and were always much appreciated. I still remember that big smile and the twinkle in his eyes. My condolences to Judy and all the family. I have many fond memories when we were neighbors and the children travelled back and forth over the back lane. I am very sorry you have lost Jack but I know you have many wonderful memories to sustain at this difficult time. At one time Jack was leading a service at Our Lady of Hope in the absence of our priest. When the time came for the homily Jack just pulled up chair to the front of the altar, set down and started telling stories to the congregation about life just like a grandfather would to his grandchildren. What a way to have church! Go Jack Go - Posted by: Robbert Hilhorst (Friend) on: Aug 22, 2018

I remember there being much hilarity in the back pew of our choir at Our Lady of Hope when Jack was with us. Much to the chagrin of Bernadette our choir leader. - Posted by: Robbert Hilhorst (Friend) on: Aug 22, 2018

Jack was head of the toxicology section and interviewed me for my first permanent job at FWI. A larger than life presence in the lab or field, Jack had a brilliant mind and passion for his work. He also enjoyed partaking in the intense baseball games and other noon hour sports at the UofM gym. My heartfelt condolences to Matt who Also worked at FWI and all of Jack’s family, Don - Posted by: Don Cobb (Co-worker at the Freshwater Institute “family”) on: Aug 22, 2018

My deepest sympathy to Judith and family. I shared many laughs with Jack at the Villa. It was a joy to hear all the stories he had about his life and family. I am very grateful to have had the chance to know him. May he rest in peace. Shelley - Posted by: Shelley (Caregiver) on: Aug 21, 2018

I remember Jack fondly, as do we all. Cordial, gracious and friendly at work, always dependable and a good scientist. My outstanding memory is a moose hunt where he, I, Gregg Brunskill and Dave Schindler did a winter hunt north of Grand Rapids, up around William Lake. We worked hard and came back to Jack's trailer, which he hauled, me riding shotgun, every evening ready for a pick me up and change of clothes. Jack especially needed the latter, because he was ALWAYS dripping wet. We even caught a moose. Matt worked for me as a summer student at Resolute one year. We got one of our "Murphi" boats stranded on Devon Island, next to Franklin's three graves in Erebus and Terror Bay, so Matt and I stayed with it for a couple of nights. But Matt had not brought enough tobacco and I feared for my life as he searched the small boat high and low for any scraps that might have been missed. Ah, yes, but then we all get old.... I remember Jack well from our days together at the Freshwater Institute. He was always passionate about his work and life, and tremendous fun to collaborate with, whether in science, canoeing or other mischief. I also remember the Klaverkamp family, a great group of kids! My condolences and best wishes to you all. Dave - Posted by: David Schindler (Friend and Colleague) on: Aug 21, 2018
