KEVIN NORMAN MEIXNER It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Kevin Norman Meixner on Wednesday, August 15, 2018. Left to cherish Kevin's memory is his wife Karen; sons, Jordan and Tyler; mother Shirley; his two brothers, Wayne (Judy) and Rick (Gina), as well as several nieces and nephews, great-nephews, great-niece, extended family and his aunts, who were all his favourites. He was predeceased by his father Wayne, just a short month prior to Kevin's passing. Kevin was born in Winnipeg on July 29, 1964 and grew up in St. James. He was always a big part of the community growing up, whether he was playing or coaching sports, so it was natural that he wanted to stay in St. James and continue to be involved with community and carry on that passion to his sons. His sons were everything to him and he proudly became deeply involved in all their activities and sports. Kevin was a true extrovert, he loved being and interacting with people as he felt that life was about connecting with family and friends; everything else was secondary to him. It was that same focus that he brought to his love of sports and his career. Both were more about the people than anything else. Kevin's gift was his sense of humour, quick wit and his ability to make everyone feel special and included. He never lost touch with old friends and always continued to make new friends. It was the reciprocal outpouring of support from family and friends that made Kevin's pain bearable and we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the love and support Kevin received throughout his illness. A Memorial and Celebration of Life will be held at the Sturgeon Heights Community Centre at 210 Rita Street on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at 3:30 p.m. If you wish, a donation can be made to Siloam Mission https://www.siloam.ca/donate/ as Kevin strongly believed a person should never be alone and they should always have a home to call their own. Condolences & Memories (9 entries)

  • I am so sorry to hear of the news of Kevin’s passing. It’s been many years since Kevin and I worked together at MTS. It was a blessing to cultivate a friendship with him. We had many memorable times. I recall how much he loved Karen and how happy he was to become a father when Jordan was born. I know he was a committed husband, caring father and a good man. He will be missed. My condolences to the family. Even though I haven’t spoken to Kevin for many years, he was thought of often and now he and his family will be in my prayers. • Very sad to hear of Kevin’s passing. Far too soon. Knowing Kevin since elementary school and playing with him on many sports teams I have many great memories and lots of laughs to be cherished. Those of us who new him have many “ I can’t believe he did that!” moments where Kevin would be the entertainer and have everyone laughing in stitches. I’m thankful I can reflect on those good times. Our sincere condolences to the Meixner family as our thoughts and prayers are with you. God bless. - Posted by: Jack Smart (Friend) on: Aug 27, 2018

  • Our condolences to the Meixner family. We are heartbroken that you have had to go through this once again. Will miss Kevin dearly. Growing up the Meixner family was my second family. I will remember all the times Kevin got away with not having to do dishes, because I did them instead so Shirley would not have to worry about having to do them, lol. Big hugs to you all, again I am so sorry for your loss. xoxo - Posted by: Caren and Geoffrey Fester (family friend) on: Aug 25, 2018

  • I met Kevin through mutual friends as well as playing hockey against him when he played for Bord Aire and I was with Deer Lodge. We also played together in Spongee when we both played for the Pitbulls. We would always run into each other whether through sports or parties we attended and Kevin always made me laugh and smile. This is what I will miss about the most - his ability to make me or anyone else smile no natter what kind of day we might've been having. We didn't see each other regularly in recent years but when we did Kevin always had his ear to ear smile on his face and we would spend time talking and laughing. Rest in Peace Kev and thanks for being my friend, I will miss you but never forget you. Brad Smith - Posted by: Brad Smith (Friend) on: Aug 25, 2018

  • Meixner Family… Because of the geography over the last 30 years – with Kevin in Winnipeg and me living mostly in Calgary – I never had a chance to enjoy Kevin’s company much over the past three decades beyond a few fleeting encounters. Yet with Kevin and my kind of friendship, where there couldn't be “quantity” in our paths crossing, there was always “quality”. And I respected him immensely for his part he so effortlessly brought – in heaps – to that formula for friendship. There was never a “best before” date and I knew it would always grow even more dear. More to that point, I cared a lot about Kevin. When I got to know him better in our teens, I grew to know he was the best kind of community guy who could genuinely touch a wide-range of people in a positive manner. Yet, as much as I both cared about Kevin and respected who he was as a human being, I couldn’t shake the feeling that he cared about me MORE. And that, his ability to care about any person – even a stranger – more than they cared about Kevin, is what put him in rarefied space with the likes of my own late and dear Mother Lina. On even the briefest encounter, whether it be Kevin's warm welcoming smile, wit, humor or some pleasing combination thereof, he could put needed wind in the sails of ANYONE – even those like myself who mistakenly felt they didn't need any. And that is why I enjoyed bumping into Kevin when I did on trips back to Winnipeg…. he always left my sail (more) full with a peaceful breeze that was his demeanor!!! Sadly, there is never going to be enough people around with Kevin's kind of contagious, positive energy. And in that spirit, I am so sorry for the Meixner family, friends, strangers and me for our loss. All the love in the world, Yogi - Posted by: Yogi Henderson (friend) on: Aug 25, 2018
