SHARON KATHLEEN HOLTZ (née SOLMUNDSON) Sharon Kathleen Holtz (née Solmundson), "Amma", passed away on August 22, 2018 at the age of 71. She was born September 8, 1946 at Hecla Island, Manitoba. Sharon lived in her family home at Hecla, the same house where she was born and raised, and where she and her husband operated Solmundson Gesta Hus since 1986. Sharon graduated from Teacher's College at the University of Winnipeg in 1968. Also that year, she married Dave. Sharon and Dave celebrated 50 years of marriage in March of this year. Sharon, a true Islander from Hecla, loved her time there. She was an ambassador for the people of the Island and the Icelandic people of Manitoba. Amma was happiest when she was able to have her family and close friends with her at Hecla. Sharon travelled the world. She, Dave, their kids, David and Katharine, and her nephew Darren lived in Germany from 1981 to 1984. Sharon travelled to Iceland several times with family and close friends and returned to Europe last year to visit her son David and his family who live in Germany. Sharon is survived by her husband of 50 years, Dave Holtz; her two children, David Holtz (Pam) and Katharine Caines; four grandchildren, Jonathan Caines (Sydney Kinkead), Samantha Caines, DJ Holtz and Erika Holtz; her brother Herb Solmundson (Moira) and an extended family and list of friends too large to list by name. She was predeceased by her parents, Einar and Gudrun Solmundson, and her brothers, Einar, Johannes "Joe" and Robert "Bob". A service to celebrate her life will be held at the Hecla Community Church on August 30 at 2:00 p.m., with a reception to follow at Hecla Community Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Descendants and Friends of Hecla Island, in care of Box 76, Riverton, MB R0C 2R0. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com
