DON LUTES December 24, 1965 - August 9, 2018 With wounded hearts, the Lutes family announces the sudden passing of our beloved father, Don Lutes. He was 52 years young. Left behind to cherish and honour Don's memory are his three children, Chris (Ashley), Jason and Denise; sisters, Debbie (Mark) and Marion; brothers, David and Robert; Papa, Robert Payne, as well as several uncles, aunties, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Also left behind is a woman who was very important to Don, his godmother Ann Thomas Callahan. To Don, Ann was his godmother in youth and her adopted son later in life. Their bond formed the moment Don took his first few breaths and was forever growing until he drew his last one. Don was greeted in heaven by his father, Robert Lutes, who passed when Don was only a baby, and his mother, Shirley Klyne, who passed when Don was 30. Don will forever be remembered for his great sense of humour and hard work ethic. If he didn't have you crouched over in laughter, he had you amazed by his handy-work. Don was born, raised and lived in Winnipeg. He was a jack of all trades, a backyard mechanic, a real life Macgyver. He worked in the steel industry as a crane and forklift operator by day and operated tractor-trailers by night. He also fulfilled his dream of becoming an entrepreneur by creating and operating his handyman company, Assembly Required. He was a role model to many people, especially to his children. Don was a man of tremendous strength, forever known as He Who Walks Tall and Proud. We miss you immensely, love you deeply and look forward to the day we will be united again. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 14, 2018 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). • As a life time of memories flood back of our times we shared as very close friends, its hard to put into words the loss of this Man to me in the living world, I can only hope you knew how much I cherished our friendship, as I honored you by standing up for me in my marriage, Donny as I affectionately called him, had such an immense ability to make me /people laugh, no matter what the circumstance Donny would have a funny story for, I loved his hair cut jokes. He once said to me, hey? you just get a hair cut?, and of course i would say ya, he'd just reply - Don't worry I'll get him for ya!!! in a most serious expression.......... then he'd giggle and of course we'd break out laughing! People who can do this are simply the most special of our population, he always was a man of his word and respect was his way in life, though we didn't speak for periods of time I always had Donny in my fondest thoughts about the simpler times in life. I want to say I am so proud he has raised such beautiful children, two fine young men and a beautiful daughter who will, as his obituary says, cherish his memory to the fullest forever. I know I will forever. Rest in peace my life long friend, till we meet again! Love you! Darryl - Posted by: Darryl Renaud (life long friend ) on: Sep 09, 2018

  • Sympathies and prayers to the family of Don. Don is one of the real people I met and worked with; he's a friend, a mentor and an older brother to me. I wish I had a chance to let him know he was truly appreciated and such a big impact to us, his co employees. He made us all laugh; working wasn't so taugh coz of his positive vibes every single day. Our workplace will never be the same. Thanks for we have met, and for everything I've learned from you. Until we meet again, brother, I'll miss you, rest easy Don; from your strongest Filipino friend as you've said... -Arnelson - Posted by: Arnelson Ramos (Coworker) on: Aug 29, 2018

  • Sending love and prayers to the family. Don or “Lutes” as we called him was my brother’s, Dennis, best friend growing up. And in some ways Don was like an older brother to me too. Only because Dennis and him were always together. He was very much family to our family. I have many memories of my brother and him. And many funny memories. And to all of his family and my brother Dennis I am thinking of you all. - Posted by: Giselle Campbell (Friend) on: Aug 28, 2018
