TERENCE WILLIAM MONTGOMERY October 22, 1925 - August 24, 2018 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our dearly loved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, at the age of 92, at Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Born on October 22, 1925 to the late Thomas Montgomery and Ella Fry, Terry was predeceased by his wife Isabella (nee McIntosh), and his sister Sheila Donelly. Terry is survived by his daughter Diane (Lou), grandson Terence Asselin, granddaughter Nicole Stewart (Tony and son Noah), and great-grandchildren, Isabella and Riley. Terry joined the Navy when he was 17 years old and was on the HMCS Orangeville which escorted ships that shipped equipment from St. John's, Nfld. to Londonderry, Ireland during the Second World War. He returned home at the end of 1945. He worked for Marshall Wells Hardware and the CNR before joining the Winnipeg Transit System until his retirement at age 58. Terry started as a bus driver and worked his way up to retire as the Chief Supervisor. He was instrumental in the start-up of the Handi-Transit and Dial a Bus Services Upon retirement he moved to Pinawa, Manitoba where he spent 30 summers golfing and fishing and 30 winters as a winter Texan in Magic Valley Park, Weslaco, Texas. He loved to talk and joke with one and all and he will be greatly missed. He was a dad when you needed a dad and a friend when you needed a friend. He was a gentleman, volunteer, role model and mentor. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Tower 4 at Deer Lodge Centre and special thank you to recreation worker Robin for all the enjoyable outings. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Terry's life will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald St. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in memory of Terry can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or charity of your choice. • I am so glad that I had the chance to meet Terry, I loved all of his stories & knowledge of so many interesting things. He lit up when he talked about his family. One of my personal favourites was listening to him talk about “Winnipeg” & how it used to be. He is missed. - Posted by: Stacy (Friend) on: Sep 02, 2018

  • Diane and Lou and Family - Sincere sympathy to you in the recent passing of your Dad and Grandfather. As you know, we have known Terry and Belle for many years and have shared many wonderful evenings with them playing cards along with Ed's Mom and Dad. Terry was a great guy and we will always remember him telling Ed's Mom he was so much younger than her. (about 12 days). Terry led a full life and one that should be celebrated and remembered fondly.
