BARBARA LILLIAN MORRISON (nee PIELOU) Barbara was born in 1913 in Winnipeg, MB. She was the fifth of six children to Barbara and Edward Pielou. Barbara was predeceased by her parents, all her siblings, her husband James Morrison, son-in-law Thorsteinn, daughter-in-law Sylvia, granddaughter Lisa, and great-grandson Mitchell. She is survived by her three children, Barbara, Ian (Gwen) and Eleanor (Kel), numerous grandchildren, great-grand-children and great-great-grandchildren. Until the age of 23, Barbara lived in East Braintree, MB where she learned how to live on a homestead, which I think is now called living off the grid with none of the conveniences the city people had. At the age of 23, she met and married James Corbett Morrison and they were married for 62 years until his death in 1999. When he passed away Barbara had to learn to live on her own with the help of her children. After trying to live in a few places, Mom settled on Lion's Manor where her two sisters already lived. After her sisters passed away she was on her own again. She celebrated her 100th birthday at the Manor but shortly after she suffered a fall which eventually lead to her requiring more help. She was moved to Heritage Lodge Personal Care Home and remained there for the rest of her life. She loved living there and said the staff were so good to her. They gave her the nickname "grand old lady" and she also became a champion of the floor shuffleboard that they played - even though she was considered legally blind. Barbara was a very special lady and loved by all who came in contact with her. She will be deeply missed. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB with burial and reception to follow. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, James, Michael and Kevin Borgford, Ken and Michael Slobodian, and great-grandson Matt Borgford. Honorary pallbearers are granddaughter Beth Morrison, grandson Chris Morrison, and granddaughter Linda Janzen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or charity of your choice.
