J. MELVIN S. ADAMS August 15, 1935 - August 28, 2018 With heavy hearts we announce that Mel passed away peacefully on August 28, 2018, with his best friend, love of his life, the one he referred to affectionately as "my Margaret" by his side. Mel will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Margaret, children, Christine and Jason and their children, Kennidi and Josh; Jennifer and Jason and their children, Audrey and Emily; sister Ann, sister-in-law Mona Kerr, and many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by parents, Ethel and Walter Adams, brother and good friend Bruce Adams, and brother-in-law Dennis Kerr. Mel was born in Morden, Manitoba, but grew up in Winnipeg. Summers in his early years were spent with his brother and sister in Roland, Manitoba, with two of his favourite people, Grandma and Grandpa Sutton. School years involved playing any, and all sports. In his adult years he had a passion for curling and golf, through the years he was a member of the Fort Rouge Curling Club, and the Niakwa and Elmhurst Golf Courses. In 1961 he married Margaret, they had a wonderful marriage that was an example to their daughters of what to strive for in a marriage. The early years of their marriage were spent living in Regina and Calgary. In the late 1960s they moved back to Winnipeg and shortly after they were blessed with daughters, Christine and Jennifer. Mel loved his girls beyond measure and was immensely proud of them. Nothing compared though to the birth of his four grandchildren, they were the light of his life. These four children were beyond lucky to have him in their life, he spent many hours telling them stories of his adventures as a young boy, playing with them, and loving them. One of his regrets is that he didn't have more time with Audrey and Emily. Mel and Margaret had the opportunity to travel to many places with family and friends. Nothing though made him happier than having his family together at the cottage in Wanasing Beach. The memories made there hold a special place in all of our hearts. Mel was someone that was quick to smile and had a great sense of humour. He was an honest man with incredible integrity. His entire career was spent in the furniture industry, which he loved. He began working at Parkhill Bedding & Furniture, and ended as a General Merchandising Manager at Palliser Furniture. He was well respected by his colleagues and a mentor to many. Through the years many colleagues became friends. We give special thanks to the wonderful staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their compassion and kindness. Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, September 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mel's honour to Crohn's & Colitis Canada, or to the charity of your choice. • Dear Margaret, Christine and Jennifer, We were so saddened when we heard the news about Mel, we reflected on the great times we had together as couples and as families, fond memories of celebrating Mel's birthdays at your cottage, especially his 40th and the cake Dennis had ordered. On a personal note Mel was a mentor for me as I learned the Furniture Industry and was instrumental in me having a successful career. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, cherish the memories of a very special person. Ron and Lore Balzer - Posted by: Ron and Lore Balzer (Friends and co-worker) on: Sep 02, 2018

  • Our Deepest sympathy to all of Mel's family and friends. Our family was very close with the Adams family during the years of our childhood in Ft Rouge. Melvin was always a kind, friendly, considerate person. He was certainly someone that brings back pleasant memories of the many happy years of our youth. He will be missed by all who knew him. God bless. - Posted by: Bob Rendall (Childhood friend and Neighbour) on: Sep 01, 2018

  • Mel and I grew up several houses apart on Hetherington Avenue in Winnipeg. Our parents were friends and Mel and I were good friends through elementary school at Riverview, middle school at Lord Roberts and high school at Gordon Bell. I always looked at Mel being one of the "cool" guys. In the early 50s having a vehicle to drive to school was definitely "cool" and Mel would drive Farney and I to Gordon Bell in his blue pickup truck. After high school our life paths took us in different directions such that I have had little contact with him for over 50 years. Reading his obit today brings back such pleasant memories of our youth. It is also clear that he has been a wonderful father, grandfather, brother and friend which makes his life a true success. My condolences to Mel's family and friends. He was a good man! - Posted by: John Rendall (friend) on: Sep 01, 2018
