My dear uncle and godfather (always Roy to me) was my own personal family idol to whom I looked up to, and I admired him for speaking his own mind with no holds barred. He also supplied our families’ dinner tables with meat from nature’s pantry. “Thank you, Uncle, for sponsoring my emigration from England to Canada in 1973. Though short lived, due to my mental home sickness at that time, I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Winnipeg, including you taking me to visit places of historical interest and the other tourists’ attractions of the day. Thank you also for arranging for me to work in B.C., and travel the Trans-Canadian Highway by Greyhound from Winnipeg to Vancouver; an unforgettable memory amongst many others”. During Uncle Roy’s visit to England in 2007, his 60th wedding anniversary, we enjoyed an evening’s entertainment at a local theatre with The Puppini Sisters, a three-piece vocal group of fine looking ladies, singing songs from the WWII era, plus their own newer repertoire, in similar harmony as The Andrews Sisters. We also visited the home of a previous work-mate from uncle’s days of working as a motor mechanic in Leighton Buzzard; a wonderful moment for him in Stewkley, Buckinghamshire. A specially framed photograph of the occasion stood proudly by uncle’s bedside, which cheered me immensely. “I’m so sorry that we had been suffering communication breakdown since 2013, due to a weak link in the family chain, when my nearest and dearest other half was diagnosed. But, I often drive over the bridge that spans the (creek) at Clipstone Brook, so I’ll stop by, with some Bassetts Liquorice Allsorts for us to share, and I’ll have a catch-up chat with you very soon”. “Rest in Peace, my dear Uncle”. - Posted by: Philip (Nephew and Godson) on: Sep 16, 2018

We are so sorry to hear about Rogers passing. He was such a nice man. We loved to listen to all his childhood stories from England, his war stories, his jokes, and his love for his wife Betty and his children and grandchildren and of course his great-grandchildren. Rest in peace Roger, you were a wonderful man and we were so happy to have known you. God Bless.. - Posted by: Dennis,Marianne,Wayne,David,Adam Fleming (Friends) on: Sep 07, 2018

Roger was a ray of light in our shop. I was lucky enough to work beside him as a young apprentice. He worked with a great attitude and always had something good to say. It's been 37 years since then and I am glad he enjoyed a long life. Peace. - Posted by: Gord Matheson (C0-worker-Stern GMC) on: Sep 02, 2018

Our condolences to you Mark and Gaye and to all family and friends. Used to meet Roger on my walks where we would have some long chats. - Posted by: Walter & Phyllis Blahut (Met him at Bill and Jone Taylor's) on: Sep 01, 2018
