THOMAS ANTHONY (TOM) WINGERT September 27, 1950 - August 29, 2018 Peacefully, on August 29, 2018, surrounded by family, Tom Wingert passed away at the age of 67. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Barbara; son Michael and beloved daughter-in-law Charlene and grandchildren, Hannah and Libby. He is also survived by his sister Nancy, of Edmonton, AB; nephews, Rob and Barry Wingert, and Jason and Kevin Stannard. He was predeceased by his parents, Tony and Betty Wingert; brother Bill (Diane); and niece Karyn. Tom was born on September 27, 1950, in Regina, SK and was the youngest of three children. He moved to Winnipeg as a child and lived in St James. He developed many friendships and had many jobs, but found his passion when he joined the St. James Fire Department on November 1, 1971. After amalgamation in 1974, he was now a proud member of the Winnipeg Fire Department. After 34 years of dedicated service, Tom retired as a Captain within the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service. In 1976, Tom met the love of his life, Barbara, by chance in an elevator, proposed within months and they were married within the year. In 1979, their only son Michael was born and his family was complete. Tom enjoyed many activities including fishing, golfing and travelling. Since retirement, Tom and Barb spent their winters in Arizona, where they made many new friends and continued many lifelong friendships. Tom was a very proud Papa to his two beautiful granddaughters, Hannah and Libby, who he loved very much. He was a devoted husband, proud father, loving grandfather and put his family above all else. Tom will be deeply missed and always loved. A very special thank you to all the staff at the Grace Hospital and MICU at Health Sciences Centre for their compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Firefighters Burn Fund or a charity of one's choice. A celebration of Tom's life will be held at the Masonic Memorial Centre, 420 Corydon Avenue on Friday, September 7 at 1:00 p.m. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit www.chapellawn.ca Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 204-885-9715
