Ken was a professor, mentor, friend, and truly a GIANT in my life. As a UofM student in the early 1980s, I was heavily influenced by Ken to pursue a career in the field of IS. He hired me to work on a variety of extraordinary consulting projects in and around Winnipeg. He supported me in my first full-time gig as a Systems Analyst in the Faculty of Management. He advised me to pursue a professional accounting designation. He promoted me to teach my first-ever university course. He included me as a coauthor on my first-ever research paper, which we presented together at an accounting conference in Lethbridge. He wrote a reference letter when I applied to PhD programs, which I never saw but must have been amazing! Ken was an extremely intelligent man who never forgot he was a “prairie boy”. I learned so much from him, we shared many laughs, and I’m frankly amazed that he saw some potential and took time for this kid! He had such a profound impact on my life. We lost touch in the last few years, but I have remained deeply grateful for Ken, and I think of him often. Bizarre as this may sound, the night before I learned about Ken’s passing, I expressed to my wife Colleen how much his avant garde teaching style and lesson content had influenced my own identity as a professor and teacher. That conversation is what prompted me to look him up—imagine my sadness to discover he had passed just a few days previously. Rest In Peace Ken, you were most definitely one of the good ones. Enjoy getting to know your Higher Power, face-to-face! - Posted by: Derrick Neufeld (Friend) on: Jul 14, 2022

Apologies for this tardy note -- just learned about Ken's passing. We have known Ken for 50 years or so, and especially enjoyed his time in Alberta and our visits with him since, in Winnipeg and Edmonton. He was a rare combination of enthusiasm and practicality, and we will miss him greatly. - Posted by: Betty & Mike Gibbins (Edmonton friends) on: Sep 09, 2018

My sincere condolences to Ken's family. Ken was my professor at the U of M both for my undergraduate degree as well as for CA Professional courses as I earned my CA designation. In addition, as Director of Education for the Institute of Chartered Accountants in the late 1990's, I hired Ken to teach a number of UFE Prep courses. During my career in industry, in a number of positions, I sought Ken out for advice. It was always thoughtful and very helpful. Whenever I saw Ken he had a smile on his face and his chuckle was infectious. He will be missed. - Posted by: Janice Miles (Colleague) on: Sep 02, 2018

As a cousin we never got to know each other, I was at his wedding. It is so uncanny that he looks like his uncle John Proven, they all had the round faces, and they were all on dialysis, my brothers as well. Take care and watch your health. - Posted by: Rosemarie Cook (cousin) on: Sep 01, 2018
