Condolences & Memories (9 entries)

  • I was very sad to hear of Vi's passing. I did her hair for a number of years and so enjoyed the time I spent with her. She was a wonderful lady with a great sense of humor. My condolences to all the Family. - Posted by: Mary-Anne Buffie (Friend) on: Oct 14, 2018

  • Vi was my sister's second Mom and she took great care of her for about five years. It has been too many years since I have seen any of the Barker's . Grew up with Karen. Got great advice from Bill to try working at the post office. Have not left after 40 years. My deepest sympathies to everyone. Take care and know that Vi will always be missed by this McBride. - Posted by: Doug McBride (Neighbor) on: Sep 30, 2018

  • I just learned of Vi's passing. To Bill, my Dad 'in kind' and to Warren, Charlene, Karen and Neil, my siblings 'in kind'; you were my first family in my first 5 years of life. Vi was my Mom too. I have so many memories of her and you. The walks to Safeway were gruelling, my little legs running to keep up to her long strides. The bus rides to visit her Mom. The smell of buns baking after rising dough was punched down and let to rise again. The budgie. The scary washing machine. The smell of Bill's pipe from the basement. Bill you taught ne to whistle and I'm still terrible. The backyard rake and my foot. Dusty. I loved that dog. Baseball with Neil and Westside Story at VMC. Swimming with Charlene and my sister Pat. Blowing bubble gum bubbles with Karen and then falling asleep and my new hair cut! Christmas's and that glittering silver tree. I still have today to ceramic jewel boxes Vi made for me as a young girl. I have held her in my heart for 54 years. I always will. • I just heard that Vi passed away. Im so sorry for your loss. I first met Vi in 1983 in the children’s wear department. She was so thoughtful and took me under her wing to show me the ropes. She was such a go getter and full of life and energy. I’m so glad she was able to attend our Eaton’s children’s wear reunion at my house. She truly was one of the best. She will be missed. - Posted by: Lori kreutzer (Friend) on: Sep 19, 2018

  • Dear Mr. Barker and family, I am deeply saddened that dear Mrs. Barker has passed. Hearing the news sent me back to a place of fond memories of her. Family meant everything to her and was always illing to share a story of them. Those stories usually ended with a giggle, dainty snort, and a smile on her face. I feel honoured and blessed to have had her in my life. My many memories of her will never soon fade and she will always hold a very special place in my heart. Words simply can’t express how deeply sorry I am for your loss. I grieve with you. With heartfelt sympathy and love, Mary Kuzmeniuk p.s. miss you Mrs. Barker… - Posted by: Mary Kuzmeniuk (Friend) on: Sep 06, 2018

  • Our sincere condolences to the Barker and McLennan families for the loss of this wonderful lady. She was a warm and outgoing person who always took great interest in everything involving her family. She was generous and giving to her family and friends. When you earned her friendship you were a friend for life. I will always cherish the memory of her Christmas dinners. She worked hard to make them special every year for everyone who came. She loved to cook those dinners for her family and spoil her grandchildren with an abundance of gifts. We were blessed in knowing Vi. - Posted by: Ian and Diane McNeill (Freinds) on: Sep 04, 2018

  • Bill and the entire Barker family. Please accept my deepest condolences in your loss of Vi. I have many very fond memories of both of you, when we first moved into the neighborhood in early 1986. You made us feel very welcome, and were always part of the "nearby" group that would stop and chat. One of my favorite memories is the annual homemade candy apples that the boys excitedly brought home on Halloween that Vi used to make for her "special" trick or treaters. She will be missed, but take comfort in your memories. Hugs & prayers for you all. Diane, Tom & Rob (Hanaback). - Posted by: Diane Westra-Hanaback (Former neighbor) on: Sep 04, 2018
