MARGARET LOUISE CAMPBELL (nee HARDY) 1929 - 2018 After bravely dealing with declining health over the past 18 months Margaret passed away on August 31, 2018. Surrounded by her loving family, she went home to her mom and dad. Through it all Mom displayed calm acceptance and maintained her feisty demeanour and her love of a good off-colour story. She never complained once and was an inspiration to us all. She is survived by her loving husband William Campbell, daughter Lori (Frank), son Gregg (Colleen), daughter Gail (Ryan) and her six grandchildren, Kyra (Colin), Spencer (Marliese), Scott, Chase, Rachel and Dane; as well as her sisters-in-law, Georgina and Edith Hardy, her nieces, Shelly (Richard), Janet (Bruce), Dawn (Al) and Heather, and nephews, Brian (Susan), Donald (Linda), Colin (Louise) and David (Theresa). Marg was predeceased by her mother Rosina Hardy, father William Hardy, beloved Aunt Meg, and her brothers, Jack and William. Margaret was born on the family farm in Ninette on July 9, 1929. Mom loved to talk about her home town, and it was through her stories that we came to feel a part of her early life. She always spoke lovingly of her family and her life on the farm, and Ninette always held a special place in her heart. Mom had a long and varied working career. She had various stints as a clerk and a secretary, and her job as a LPN took her to Brandon, Selkirk, and Chilliwack. It was her time at the Canadian Wheat Board that she talked of most, and it was there that she met life long friends, Maryanne, Beth and Joyce. When Lori arrived in 1962 Mom stayed at home to raise her family. Mom and Dad met at the Army and Navy in July 1960. Six months later, on December 3 with five dollars in the bank, and a lot of hope for the future, they were married at the Grey Street United Church. They started married life in the Ladywood Apartments and saved to buy their first house on Warsaw Street. Mom always loved that little house and it was there that Mom had Lori and in quick succession, Gregg. Dad's work took him to Pinawa where Gail was born in 1965. In 1967 they moved back to Winnipeg and settled into our house on Raquette Street in Westwood. It was there that Marg and the whole family developed friendships that last to this day. Mom became a Lifetime Member of Kirkfield United Church and continued to attend services until she was unable to do so. After Dad retired they split their time between the apartment on Westwood Drive and cottages in Matlock and Ponemah. They spent many happy years at the lake, and the cottage became the source of many great memories for the kids and grandkids. The cottage at Ponemah was also the site of Mom's infamous driving lesson. Mom decided at 79 that she should learn to drive...the results were not good. As Dad always said, to know her is to love her. Her sense of humour and gift of the gab were legendary. Her compassion and ability to connect with people was one of her greatest gifts. She took the "six degrees of separation" theory to heart and once introduced to someone, Mom wouldn't rest until she learned that person's entire family tree. She always managed to find a connection to someone she knew, or was related to, and invariably the trail led back to Ninette. Although it was hard to watch Mom fade over the last year and a half, we are thankful that she didn't suffer, and feel blessed that we were able to have a long goodbye. Dad's devotion to Mom was unbending, and it was through her illness that our family was able to see what a love story they truly were. Dad was with her daily, advocated for her constantly, and spent long hours by her bedside keeping her company and making her comfortable. We are grateful to Dr. Fletcher, and to the staff at Golden West Centennial Lodge and Poseidon Personal Care Home for the wonderful care they provided Mom. We could not have made it through this without them. Special thanks to her nieces, Janet, Shelly and Dawn, Aunt Georgina (and her Sunday morning calls), special friends, Irene, Helena, Janie, Maryanne, Bev, Brian and Eileen, Susan and all of Mom and Dad's friends at 429 Westwood. A memorial service to celebrate her life will take place on Monday, September 10, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery).
