VIOLA (VI) FLORENCE BARKER (nee MCLENNAN) It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Viola Barker on August 30, 2018. She was a devoted wife of 71 years to William Barker, mother to Warren (Val), Charlene (Larry), Karen and Neil (Liz). She loved children and leaves a special place in the hearts of her grandchildren, Brad (Colleen), Cam (Alana), Jordan (Hayley), Erin (Bill), Loren, Jared (Hollis), Kelsey and Tanner, and great-grandchildren, Adeline, Callum, Harvey, Nolan, Aiden, Zane, Averee and Araiya. Vi was predeceased by her parents, Olive and Alex McLennan, brothers, Tom, Orville, Allan, Neil, Malcolm, and sisters, Kathleen, Mabel, Margaret and Eileen. Mom was born December 13, 1922 in Winnipeg and grew up in Elmwood until she married William (Bill) Barker on May 24, 1947. They moved to Fort Garry where she lived on Somerville Avenue for 67 years. She loved children, raising her own, taking care of others in the neighbourhood and clothing them in Eatons where she worked in the Childrens Department. She also enjoyed bowling at Mosienko Lanes, lawn bowling, baseball and basketball as a child. She became an avid fan of all sports in later life watching tennis, curling, hockey, baseball and football. She especially enjoyed watching her family at all their sporting events. She loved all dogs but in particular Airedales. Dusty was part of the family for many years. Mom was an avid cook holding on dearly to her ambrosia salad, meatball, butter tart and bread bun recipes like they were state secrets. Mom was truly one of a kind with a wit and sense of humour that kept us all on our toes. She will be loved and missed as we all forge on without her. Our sincere thanks to the dedication and support from the staff at Deer Lodge Centre for assisting Mom these last two years. She loved the staff and made many friends with the other residents of Tower 5. A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, September 6 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Deer Lodge Foundation, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB (204) 272-8911. http://www.deerlodgefoundation.ca THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
