My VERY belated condolences in the passing of Burton, and I apologise for the lateness. I first met Burton through our mutual Rotary Club (Winnipeg West) and I enjoyed listening to his many stories about the early days off our club and it's members. But one story should be told for posterity. During WWII, Burton was an artillery officer with the RCA, and his unit was posted to some Godforsaken place at the very northern tip of the Queen Charlotte Islands. A strange place you ask, well it was an ideal location to protect against enemy ships and especially submarines that might try to sneak by or get into the inner coastal channels. Several guns would have been placed in that particular area, and there would have been several other gun locations along the coastline, but well spread out. The Gunners at each location had to make their own fun, but they were a long way from any store to replenish "comfort" items. Every once and a while, a Catalina flying boat would bring in mail and rations. On one occasion, Burton convinced the pilot to fly him over to Ketchican in Alaska, and with the money he'd collected from the Canadian soldiers, he went to the liquor store and bought loads of liquor and beer to take back. I can only imagine this move by Burton was very popular and helped relieve the tedium of the extreme remoteness and lack of action. It seemed that no shots were ever fired in anger during the course of the war. Thank you Burton for being in your company which I always enjoyed. - Posted by: Alex Cupples (Fellow Rotarian.) on: May 19, 2022

I was sorry to hear about Mr. Kennedy's passing. He was a man of dignity who graciously shared his knowledge and business acumen with me during my tenure at Sturgeon Creek II Retirement Residence. He was a fine gentleman with a good sense of humour...and it was an honour to know him and his fine wife. My sincerer condolences to Mrs. Kennedy and the the Kennedy family. - Posted by: Heather Mutcheson (We knew each other through the work setting) on: Sep 17, 2018
