MARION CATHERINE SMERCHANSKI It is with profound sadness that the family of Marion Catherine Smerchanski (nee Baley) announce that Marion passed away peacefully at Goodwin Lodge in Teulon, Manitoba on September 11, 2018, at the age of 95. She was the last surviving member of her generation of the Baley family, being predeceased by her parents, brothers and sisters. Marion married Stanley Smerchanski on July 29, 1950, in Winnipeg, and was predeceased by her husband in 1958. After Stan's death, she returned to university in Winnipeg to complete her education degree. She began a lengthy teaching career in Teulon. She loved playing and coaching baseball as a young woman. She retired from teaching in the mid-1980s. Marion enjoyed socializing with the Teulon Association for Retired Teachers (TARTS) and was the happiest visiting with family and friends and enjoying a cup of tea. Marion will be sadly missed by her sons, Gerald (Silvia) and Grant (Glenda Cavers), her grandchildren, Kristin Smerchanski and Derek Smerchanski, and many nieces, nephews and friends. A private family memorial service will be arranged. The family would like to thank the staff at Goodwin Lodge for their compassion and care.
