Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER DOERN January 24, 1929 - September 13, 2018 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear Father and Gramps on September 13, 2018 at the age of 89 years. He was predeceased by his wife Geraldine in 2007; sisters, Carrie, Edith, Emma, Violet, Theresa, Sophie, Lillian and Dorothy and brothers, William, Fred and Edward. Walter will be forever missed by his children, Doug (Laurie), Janice (Mel) and Russell (Joanne), grandchildren, Jarrod, Melody, Daniel and Kiana plus his sisters-in-law as well as many nieces and nephews especially Wayne Kein who was like a son to him. Walter was a favourite amongst many people. He was a very distinguished and handsome man. His wisdom, his contagious smile, his sense of humour, his kibitzing, the mischievous glint in his eyes when you knew he was about to tell a zinger of a joke and the kid inside made him loved by everybody who knew him. He made an impression wherever he went. Getting together with family for card games, outings to South Beach, morning outings for breakfast, coffee get-togethers with nephew Garry Bochinski, fishing trips and the numerous family get-togethers were what he lived for. After the passing of his wife, his constant companion became his son Russell until Russell's cancer and ill-health prohibited him from taking care of Dad. This was a life changer for Dad and left a big hole in his heart. A special thank you to all the caring staff of Donwood Manor and wonderful friends he made there. Thank you, Dr. Salem and staff, for the care and compassion you showed our father and Russell for many years. Dad, Gramps - we loved you very much and will miss you immensely. He had a close connection with all his grandchildren. Our family get-togethers will never be the same. Dad's granddaughter Kiana, nicknamed by him as Keekus, said on his passing, "I lost my best friend". In honour of Dad's wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date. My heart felt condolences to the family. I enjoyed our conversations when he would come to my shop. He enjoyed a good joke & I would always make sure I had a new one ready for him. He was more then a customer & I will miss his visits. - Posted by: Louis Ouimet (Friend & Barber) on: Sep 17, 2018
