JOYCE ALMDAL April 6, 1927 - August 13, 2018 After a lengthy struggle with dementia, our dear, fun loving mom, Joyce slipped peacefully away on Monday, August 13, 2018 to be reunited with our dad, James Almdal. Joyce will be forever remembered and greatly missed by her daughters: Judy Kaprowy and Wendy Down; son: Ron Almdal (Colleen Smith); her grandchildren: Kerri Guralnick (Jason), Geoffrey Kaprowy, Sayer Down (Chenoah Bueckert), Aquila Down and Crystal Almdal (Nik Kocay); and her great-grandsons: Joshua and Seth Guralnick. Mom leaves her sister: Janice Andersen, her brothers: Clifford (Barbara) Larson and Jim (Arley) Larson and their extended families to cherish her memories. Joyce was born and raised in Calgary where she met and married the love of her life Jim. They had 68 years together remaining deeply devoted to each other until Dad passed away in 2016. Mom loved life and everything that life had to offer especially if it included being with Jim and her children. She enjoyed playing bingo, curling, golfing, knitting, and travelling. Mom treated all of our military transfers across Canada and Europe like an adventure. She looked forward to meeting new friends, starting new activities, setting up a new home. She always looked forward to spending idle summer days at the cottage with her family. Mom was a stay at home mom choosing to return to the workforce once her children were older. In 1992 Mom retired from her position as switchboard supervisor with the Canadian Armed Forces in Winnipeg. It was at this time that Mom and Dad began to take extensive motor holidays and to enjoy time together. A graveside service and interment will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception and celebration of Joyce's life at Thomson "In the Park", 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. To everyone who has given their support over the years by visiting our mom, or passing along your thoughts, your support was greatly appreciated. The family would like to thank Mom's Beta Sigma Phi sorority sisters who faithfully came to visit, sent cards, and brought meaningful gifts. We would also like to thank the amazing staff at Simkin Centre for their outstanding care and compassion over the past years. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Joyce's memory to the Fort Garry Women's Resource Centre or to the Simkin Centre.
