VALGERDUR ERICKSON Valgerdur (Val) Erickson (nee Breidal) passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Calvary Place Personal Care Home, Winnipeg, MB, with family by her side. Val was born on July 24, 1917 at Baldur, Manitoba to Jon Breidal and Gudbjorg Bardarson. She attended school at Hola School and Baldur School completing her Grade XI. October 26, 1940, she married Hallgrimur Erickson of Lundar where they began a mixed farm. Farm life was busy with the raising of cattle, haying, planting and harvesting grain along with a large garden with fruits and vegetables preserved for winter. She was a very loving, caring and supportive mother, sewing clothing and knitting mitts and socks for winter. She still found time to be involved in her community. Val belonged to farm organizations and later was very involved with the New Horizons Club when retired to town in 1974. She loved playing cards, dominoes and shuffleboard. Val was very talented and excelled at crocheting, ceramics, and oil painting. They welcomed friends, neighbours, and family to their home for coffee, and good home baked goodies and home-grown meals were enjoyed. She is survived by her daughter Carol; grandsons, Rodney (Penny) and Ryan; her daughter-in-law Donna; granddaughters, Carrie and Cheryl (Darrell); great-grandsons, Riley and Caden; sisters, Bonnie Schau and Lilja Koldyk, as well as several wonderful nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her stepmother Kristrun, her husband, son John, son-in-law Norman Johnson, brothers, Bertel, Helgi, Skip, Kris, Murray and Joe, sister Anna, and brothers-in-law, Larry Schau, Frank Peterson and Joe Koldyk. The celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at the Lundar Legion Hall, 50 - 3rd Ave., Lundar, MB with Glen Knutson officiating. Interment will follow in the Lundar Municipal Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brian Koldyk, John Tomes, Bob Gleich, Barry Gleich, Bob Roberts and Len Johnson.
