HELEN CORINNE SMALES (nee DICKSON) It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Corinne Smales at the age of 86 years on September 15, 2018, at the Bethania Personal Care Home, with family and friends by her side. Born August 22, 1932 in Winnipeg to parents John and Helen Dickson. She was predeceased by her husband Donald. She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Charlotte (Richard) Rhodes, Janice Smales and Aynsley (Bob) Martin; her grandchildren, Caitlyn (Daniel) Manser, Lindsay Rhodes, Adam (Ashley), Kayla, Taylor Hedley, Melissa, Bryce and Jenna Martin; her brothers, Ronald (Heather) and Allen (Elinor) Dickson; and special friend Jean Cunningham. Corinne enjoyed her role as "stay at home" mom and supported Don by keeping the financial books for the family business at McLeod Service Station in East Kildonan. She volunteered for the Children's Hospital, St. Agnes Guild, where she was the treasurer for many years, helped with the Annual Fall Tea and with the sorting of books all year for the St. Vital Book Sales in the spring. She was active in past years at both John Black and Windsor United Churches. Corinne spent most summers at Caddy Lake in the Whiteshell and loved travelling abroad when Don retired. She devoted her time to her husband, three girls and eventually her eight grandchildren. Mom taught her girls how to be a loyal friend and family member. She loved unconditionally and without favouritism. She was tough when she needed to be but always warm and loving. She showed us how to live positively in spite of the disability, discomfort and constant change brought on by her chronic illness. Mom there is a little of you in all of us as we move forward. Special thanks to the amazing staff at Bethania Personal Care Home for the wonderful care and support to Corinne and family. In lieu of flowers, donations to CancerCare Manitoba, Arthritis Society or the Bethania Personal Care Home would be welcomed. Memorial service will be held Thursday, September 20 at 2:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Ave. Forever in our Hearts MOM! Corinne was a gal guided by a strong moral compass and she lived life by it and shared it with all around her. She reflected a friendly, pleasant demeanor that seemed so easy for her even when sharing her opinions on a variety of topics. To Charlotte, Janice, Aynsley and your families, I would like to express my condolences to you on the loss of your mom/grandmother. God bless. - Posted by: Darrell Kinley (Family friend) on: Sep 18, 2018
